Alright, I've confirmed that, by default, dogs cannot be milked, nor can cats. Ben Stiller would be disappointed.

Well, even if you couldn't control what breeds with what, you can perfectly well control what's actually alive in your fort by butchering.

exactly. as there's also no penalty for inbreeding, you can just have a one bull herd.

BTW, I almost tried that since I lacked cattle one time, so I had to resort to just a syllable of it. Tles weren't available though, so I had to go for the alternative.

Upon some arena mode testing, it seems that the combination of the meanings "large" and "muscular" are the best indicator of high meat-yield when butchered.  "Gigantic and muscular" or similar is of course the best.  Any synonym of the word "weak" or "not very muscular", on the other hand, yielded massively sub-par results.  "Gigantic yet incredibly weak" was approximately 1/5 average yield.  A merely "gigantic" creature had perhaps 1/3 yield (he must have been just strong enough to not have his weakness noted).  Notation of being "fat" or "skinny" also had a large effect on the amount of fat produced.  The larger the creature was initially, the easier it was to observe the effects of varying size (I used whales for research purposes, both large and easy to kill by spawning out of water). 

Also, butchering an "very muscular and just gigantic overall" whale resulted in a stack of whale meat [1174] 
Not to mention the hundreds of lungs and livers and things.
"Gigantic with incredible muscles" had similar results.  Those two seem to be the best, so far.

Whoa, I just remembered that genetics were in this release. Selective breeding of livestocks been around forever. I'm holding off the Hitler stuff until someone does it to dwarves, humans, elves, etc.
