Sweetbread
« on: April 07, 2010, 08:44:17 am »

A lot of people seem to think sweetbread is an actual "bread".

Just to clarify:
Sweetbreads are the thymus (throat sweetbread) and the pancreas (heart or stomach sweetbread), especially of the calf and lamb (although beef and pork sweetbreads are also eaten).

I was wondering about that. I didn't see how it could be an actual bread, since you get it from butchered animals, not baking flour.

I would still like to see a different variety of meals like pudding, bread, cakes, sausage, etc. available at the kitchen when you have certain ingredients available.

Would be nice to be able to use all those barrels of blood the traders bring to make Black Pudding:

Open up material_template_default.txt and add [EDIBLE_COOKED] to the [MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:BLOOD_TEMPLATE] entry.  Blood is now a cookable ingredient.  Doesn't call it Black Pudding, of course, you'll get cow's blood roasts or whatever.

I always thought sweetbreads were the same as sweetmeats.

Having all these things just paves the way for stuff like recipes later.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it, it's appreciated. Would hate to carry false imagery in the cranial graphics card. This reminds me to check up Slugmen and the like in Wikipedia and... erm well, at least the more mundane entries where there is any hint of doubt whatsoever. The thing is, I for one would not have doubted this one. So again, your time has not been wasted!

No, sweetmeats are confectioneries, pastry or cake. Sweetbreads are the thymus or pancreas.

Hence, sweetmeats are bread and sweetbreads are meat.
