Alright, the Wiki badly needs updating.

The wikipedia system of communication is absolutely terrible, as you can see if you check the attempt to create a "multiplayer league" there. It's just not flexible enough to serve the purpose of a forum in addition to an encyclopedia. So, this is where we will discuss how the Bay12 forum community is working to update the wiki.

WARNING: Do not post untagged spoilers. If you do, you will be reported. No one wants to hear all about the new HFS without getting to explore it and be surprised, just because some people on the forum won't use the spoiler button.

Well, I'm planning on updating the economy section, but that requires that I get the economy to kick in. Sadly I did have a fort with a Baron (though no Tax Collector, so no Economy) but the fort had a run in with some nasties and I didn't make a backup. I've since had two forts with 80+ dwarves and over 600k produced wealth, but both had their liaisons ganked by goblins before trading began. Liasons are supposed to auto-replace, but it took two years (no liaison next year, new one year after) and the new one didn't appoint a Baron, then I had a run in with ~20 gobbos and lost 15 dwarves. After that was a string of "no migrants" and so I ditched the fort to try again with a better military presence and faster wealth production.

So...

To start things off:
Quietust updated the Gems page through the RAWs, but he needs a knowledgeable person to verify that the colors have not changed.

I have started a table on the Cheeses page, but we need more information. What traders/races bring which cheeses, does Dwarven Cheese even exist anymore, what are the values of various cheeses, what creatures produce cheeses and are they milkable, etc.
We also need better than a basic write-up of how the milking process goes down in Milking.

Other agricultural pages, and many pages in general, simply need to be verified and mostly copied from the old pages (with repaired links and any slight updates necessary). An example would be the Herbalism page. Herbalism hasn't changed, so it should be easily updated.

Some important new pages don't even exist. For example: there is no page for Plasters. There isn't even a placeholder or stub.

I'm focusing on the agricultural section. Considering the somewhat crippling bugs in 2010, I find this to be more productive than diving down and ruining the surprise without being able to utilize the new features and medical abilities effectively, or skimming the forums and running slap into untagged spoilers.

Well, I'm planning on updating the economy section.
Great. Beware that Toady remarked on how broken his placeholder economy had become, so you will likely either encounter something totally unexpected or no economy at all.

Yeah, I haven't been able to get anyone to confirm an active economy, just a lot of "I turn it off 'cus I'm not a retard" type comments, but my suspicion is that Tax Collector becomes assignable after you have a Baron since Nobles really aren't appointed anymore (though I do believe Mayor still gets elected since I seem to recall my Mayor changing in one fort without a death involved.)

I think by and large the economy was actually untouched and unchanged (although in raws you can tweak coin values now) the biggest change in the economy (or lack thereof) is that doctors and any new professions do NOT get paid

I started the Soap article. Seems good so far.

We need to do something about all the '40d' spam on the alphabetical listings pages. Right now its the first thing you see on the page and clutters the heck out of the indexes. Migrate those to a true archive or preface with a very low-priority character perhaps?

Have to say I kinda gave up editing the wiki due to a long time without playing and since the new version we've had this weird category thing for the different versions of the game. Personally I think it's not helpful from an editing point of view as creating new pages is much harder than correcting incorrect information. But I'll see if I can get back into editing again.

Great. You're aware that there is some rumor of a bug with soap, and a necessary alteration that you can manually make to the RAWs to fix it? I heard it's in a bug report, but I don't personally want to track it down.

Wiki's utilities are limited. A true archive would be nice, but for now there's this Category page that lists only 2010 pages:
http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Category:Current
We can't overwrite .28...40d pages. That is a separate version of the game, much like 2D. Some people may still play it for various reasons, and as long as it's available it needs its own wiki.

My intent when suggesting the different name-spaces was that the "main" (no prefix) namespace is used by the current at that time version of DF.
Somehow - in the way these things happen on wikis - that idea transformed into "put every article in a namespace matching the version".

Hey, if you don't like it change it - it is a wiki!   ;)

Content I'm happy to change ;) but structure I'll leave to whoever is running the site. Seems fair.

It's not so much the saving of the 40d version it's the loss of all the content for the current version. Would there be a quick way to make the empty 0.31 pages match the 40d ones until we get around to changing them? As I said before it's much easier to fix things that are wrong than to write whole new pages.

Copy and paste, maybe?

This doesn't sound quick :) (lots of pages)

Although If you mean when writing a new page I guess you could do that as a base text..

the economy pretty much hasn't changed at all, you could always change the value (and indeed the metal) of coins, the economy hasn't even been expanded to fit medical jobs, as you say. -not really a change, more a lack of one.

The funny thing about your suggestion...
they moved "main" namespace to "version" namespace with a bot &/or script &/or database hacking.
I suggested copying "most recent legacy version" articles to "current version" article and was all but flayed alive.

It seems they would prefer either
a) no article;
b) an empty article; or
c) an article written from the ground up for the version of DF that the name-space represents.

Personally, I'd suggest going to [[version:foo]] and copy/pasting everything to [[user:your user id\foo]] as required, then edit as required. Then move the [[user:your user id\foo]] to [[currentversion:foo]] (there is a whole tab for that command, it's quite easy to move pages with mediawiki).
