FYI, migrant influx is believed likely to change.
We're discussing editing a wiki... if the original information is wrong enough, someone will change it.

Hah, smartass. The point is that there are 100's of pages to be written, so it's best not to waste a large amount of time researching and experimenting with migrant influx if it is going to change in a week.

Anyway, glad to see all these eager participants! I've gotten rusty with the wikipedia code, and I can't seem to find the stupid page that tells you how to do it. Found it.

I'm interested in helping out with the wiki, but my hands are tied by my old-model Macbook right now.  Is there some sort of repetitive data entry, like digging creature information out of the raws, that needs doing by hand?

We should sticky this and the OP should maintain a list of things on the wiki that need to be updated. I guess this could also be done on the wiki...

Trap damage, creature components, and whatnot could all be done this way.

Of course not every contribution needs to be an update. You could always dig through the raws for information on beast men, demons, or whatever and compile some pages on how the game creates them, since a lot of that is new information.

Taking this, and the suggestion by Johnny, I've edited the first page. It lists some specific projects, many of which could be worked on by those who cannot play at the moment.

I'm working on the creature entries, but they'll need some subsequent fleshing-out with actual game experience/observed behavior.  Butchery results are a mystery to me right now, so the relevant places in the table have "?" as a placeholder.  I'm also placing each creature entry in the "Creatures" category to make them easier to hunt down for improvements.

Alright, I've added your names to those categories. Any notes you make will be updated in the OP. In fact, it would be nice if you could note anything you need so that I can record it there.

I just finished this one.  Now that I'm looking at it I wonder if the butchering returns template should include the wonderfully broad array of prepared organs that each creature now yields in addition to the basics.

EDIT:for the purposes of butchering research, material_template_default.txt contains some of the relevant information, but I haven't figured out what determines the exact number of bones/chunks/etc a butchered carcass creates.

Ah, well as far as that goes: You should skip the work on that outdated, hardcoded butchery table. It desperately needs to be destroyed/updated.

First: There is no such thing as a "chunk" in this version. That was a placeholder mechanic. The products of butchery are fairly well-documented on the Butchery page (but understanding is limited).
Second: I'd drop a message to the moderator, asking for a new template that will allow you to list the basic anatomy of each creature.

Such as...
Type: Mammalian/Reptilian/other
Basic Organs subtable
Liver:Yes
Intestines:No
etc.
Vertebrate:Yes
Body Type:Quadruped

He can probably come up with something to serve the new function. Creatures don't all drop normal raw skins now, hooves, teeth and ivory are possible now, etc. You're just wasting your time trying to fill in the outdated table. I'd suggest just breezing through adding and establishing the entries instead. You can still do a lot of good updating info like Underground vs Aboveground, biomes, etc.

Okay a couple of quick questions. I was wondering about linking to an article on the current version. If I want to create a link to the DF2010 version should i just leave it to direct to the most current version or actually use the {{L|Article name}} tag? I ask because some pages just say {{Article Name|Article Name}} which is correct since DF2010 is the most current version, but others use the former format.

Next up, as I was exploring some of the 40d pages I found links within articles that went to the current version. Should I change these to link within the 40d version? My gut says yes but I figured I should ask.

Also the wiki seems to be down at the moment, for me at least. Thanks for the help.

As a side note, if you leave out the second string the link will be called the first one. Plus stuff like {{l|goblins}}s with the word extended outside the link will show 'goblins' but link to the singular 'goblin.'

The same template is used to link to 40d from within 40d, or any other namespace.
