material token list (and questions)
« on: April 06, 2010, 10:29:25 pm »

questions for materials and their tokens topic. the wiki is now more up to date than this thread is: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Material_token :P  i promise to update first post for results of any questions throughout the thread.

first need to know what each token means or does and its respective syntax.  toady's notes were enough explaining for half of them but here's the list.  warning...it's alot, spoiler'ed to save space...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

might be better in chart form but i already finished typing and forgot the question i was gona ask by now...[/s]

This may be of use to the Wiki. good job!

It's worth noting that material tokens appear in the material templates, and can be overwritten by entries in the material's definition. For example, all Soil has a lower SOLID_DENSITY than default stone.

SOLID and POWDER are also valid state types.

where is that? it's relevant but didn't see it.

SOLID and POWDER are also valid state types.
added but what is the difference between SOLID and ALL_SOLID. from observation ALL_SOLID is defining "solid".  i'm guessing POWDER was found in a string dump but it's not in the vanilla raw, so what does it do?

POWDER is in the vanilla raw; bones have a name for their powder state called "Bone meal". However, plants - the only millable material - have a second material template for their powder state, so there's some kind of exception/hardcoding wackiness there.

found it and need to add a tag lower in this list. POWDER is a valid state but it still wasn't used for the mat file.

edit: typos
