Wascally Bwonze Cowossus.
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:49:06 pm »

So I'm in adventure mode, and my first quest is to kill a bronze colossus plaguing the countryside. I say "Sure, no problem chief"

After visiting the cave and confronting him, I promptly void my bowels and decide it's better to roam the countryside and kill a few wolves first. After slaughtering most of the population of two goblin towns with only a bruised cheek and a scratched eyelid to show for it, I find myself more confident, but not enough to face him alone.

With my meatshield party of a maceman, a pikeman, a spearman, and a swordsman, I find Ostath Archlords the Impervious Knight and call him a punk bitch. He finds this offensive and charges at me. How exactly a bronze statue punches and kicks, I'll never be sure, but it certainly has proven ineffectual. I'm still locked in combat with this abomination, and no end is in sight. My comrades are dead, I'm unscathed, and following damage has been inflicted on the Bronze Colossus.

When does this thing DIE!?

Fire. It can reportedly also be decapped by a dwarf using a 2-handed weapon.

I've beat one for ~30 turns with 5 adamantine hammer and axe-armed dwarves....and it left him as a quadriplegic that can still shatter bone when he pushed stuff. Seems like, without dragon fire or magma, if you couldn't kill them in the first few rounds like other creatures, you're not going to.

It isn't going to die short of a magma-bath,your best option is to evac. There are several threads up relating to bronze collosus' immortality.Essentially, you are able to slice it apart and fracture it completely, but since there is no internal organs,no brain,no heart, there really isn't anything can do.just leave it crippled and continue on your adventures.

You don't stand a chance. The only lethal thing to a BC is melting or decapitation. You can do neither with the tools you have. Give it up.

Back up against a wall and let it attack you.  If you dodge out of the way (Likely, if you're as experienced as you should be from prolonged colossus-fighting) he'll run into the wall and fall down.  Stand next to him and try to chop his head off.  If you succeed, congrats, you've just done what no one in the entire gameworld should be capable of doing, and need to retire your adventurer.  He's too great a hero to die.

If you get a dense enough metal for a hammer, I believe creatures are hard coded to die on impact from collisions after being sent flying. You'd probably need to be ridiculously strong, though.

The fourth way to kill a bronze colossus, apart from decapitation, chasming and melting, is to crush him with a cave-in. Requires building a cave-in machine in fortress mode and won't give your adventurer a frag, but doesn't require digging for magma and all that. Oh, and beware the new cave-in dust, it is dangerous now.

Pretty much the [SEVERONBREAK] tag is broken.  Your only hope is to either melt it with dragon fire, magma, or give it a terminal fall.

Also in a fun story, dragons are now normal fire immune.   Magma doesn't kill them any more.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Nah it just stunned before.

I was thinking of the "throwing" effect it had before, that was usually enough to cause serious injuries to my miners.

Dunno what your problem is with me, but ok...

And there goes Urist McMiner, off the bridge, into the magma pipe!
