Log Flumes

I for one believe that log flumes need to be in. Underground forests are all very well but if you have an abundance of wood outside then hauling it shouldn't be necessary. Long log flume could be set up. Dwarves deposit wood in the opening and then the wood floats along the water until it reaches a designated trapping area where it is hauled inside again.

Obviously flow direction needs to be taken into account. Natural flumes using a river that flows from outside to inside like in the screens that have been shown for the new levels. Or flowing from higher ground to lower ground as an artificial flume using the Z axis.

Actually, if materials have a density value in the next version and are allowed to "float" on liquids less dense then it is, then this should be very possible without being directly implemented. [More so if there's a "Grate" object which lets the water pass through but not large objects; that way there'd be a perminate flow direction and the water wouldn't become stagnant]

Dwarves grabbing logs right off of the water is a good idea, though.

DF already is the greatest game ever, it is just matter of time until every man and woman in world will play DF.

That it is!
i recommend it to everyone I can even though many of them have "graphics" problems

Yes with the new grates it would be very possible as the logs would line up at the grate and as one was taken the next one would be pushed onto the delivery point. So only one requesting a haul job at a time.

I can imagine it now, a deep carpenters workshop with a fed supply of wood  :)
