So i started without a leader...
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:41:30 am »

and now it seems i can't assign labors to dorfs that they don't have already. and i can't assign nobles/admins. anyone else had this problem? does it right itself if i get big enough for a sherrif/mayor?

Thikut: *Smacks urist across face* WHO DO YOU THINK I AM?!? ARMOK?!?
Urist: No just... nevermind

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

Dang, I was hoping to get enough immigrants to appoint a new mayor or something... or at least get wiped out and reclaim it or something :)  I had an expedition leader die, then the only noble positions were military.

If it hasn't changed from previous versions....

...Expedition leader deaths last until someone else is elected.  Unless it is bugged...

I never had any elections, I only got up to about 40 dwarves before getting massacred down again.  Finally the last goblin siege sent everyone to the hospital, where they died of thirst.  After re-embarking, I get the normal nobles again.  Different from the posters initial lack of nobles.

Ruh roh, my leader died a while back, after my highly skilled but unarmed hammerdwarf was beheaded by a werewolf 6 seconds after embark... On a frozen haunted tundra... With no ice, water, magma, or trees... And then on digging 100 levels down and finding magma then digging back up and flooding my magma on a cavern I missed 80 levels above... And it's all saltwater... And all my food was by the magma.  And I only have three dwarves and only one is melancholy...

But the other two are ecstatic because they're in love.

And I can't assign nobles...  Man I hope I don't have to abandon or anything.

I had Urist McExpeditionLeader dodge over a 10Z cliff edge to avoid being scratched by a giant mole, and couldn't appoint anything after that - except for the militia captain, because he answers directly to the militia leader who was still alive.

A while after I hit 50+ Dwarves I had a mayor elected, and I could now appoint new people again. Wunderbar!

Just thought I'd let people know that you can always wait for that to happen if you've got a nice thing going :)

I had the same thing happen except it was a recruit in my millitary and was only 5z. He mannaged to survive because he landed in a pool of water, but nearly died as we were digging to get him out. He lay in the hospitle with broken bones and bandages limbs. Poor sucker.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.  The obvious solution is to chain the baby up at the entrance as a kobold detector.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.
