OK, that's everyone I think. Time for the intro and the first turn.
INTRO:
The Arcanists say that the true nature of magic is like a web. Everything is interconnected with times past, present, and future. Every little link between the matter of the universe all creates just that little bit of history, of energy. Seemingly random events all create one great era. So it is with these six.
A hermit, scavenging the lands. A killer, torn between two minds. A healer, questing for apprenticeship. A loner, guided by dark forces. A soldier, trapped out of time, and an exile, searching for redemption.
All have their part to play, as the foe who slumbered begins to awake. However, only time will tell what their part will be...
TURN 1:
Thom:
In dire need of a drink, Thom searched the city streets. Much to his dismay, however, most of the watering holes appeared to be shut for the celebrations. Irritated, and near fainting from thirst, he decided to head to the Warlock Order. They'd give him a drink, and maybe even some food if he was lucky. All he had to do was find his way around in this damn place...
You get your drink, and some food. Youre now in the warrens underneath the city, where the Warlocks reside.
Martin & The Trapped One (Trap):
Martin was lost. He'd never seen this many people at once - it seemed they all came out of the woodwork for this festival. Everywhere merchants were hawking their wares, posters and flyers littered the streets, and the chatter of the masses drowned out all other noise. It was overwhelming. He hadn't the foggiest where to find the Orders, where his old teacher had mentioned he might find further tutorship. Lost, and with nowhere else to go, he decided to ask a passerby.
"Hey, um, sir, would you be able to direct me to the Therianthrope Order?"
The stranger turned around, a faint haze visible around his body. Warpers had always freaked Martin out, and he almost regretted asking. Too late now.
"Actually, I was heading there myself. See the tower over there? It's hard to miss - but that's where all of 'em are, apparently. I'll go with you, at least 'til you get to yours. What's your name?"
"Martin"
"Ah. My name's... Trap. Anyway, let's be off, before we get completely crushed in this crowd."
Both of you get to the Orders. You discover that both career and tutoring opportunities are covered in the main tower, and so that's where you head. For now, you're still together.
Theodore:
He was so hungry. Coming here had been a bad idea - he'd forgone a meal to get here, and the guards were out in full force in anticipation of any mischief. If he stayed here much longer, he'd snap. So many tasty meals, and not able to eat them. But some, some he could eat. It was just a little farther to travel, that was all...
The outskirts of town. No law resided here, no guards dared set foot here. Here, he could hunt, and no one would care. The flesh of a criminal was as good as any other, after all, and he was still so very hungry. Hissing softly to himself, he crouched to the ground, and began to stalk his prey.
Up to you if you kill someone or not. You're now in the most lawless zone of the city though, and you'll be competing with other Ferals for lunch.
Cullos:
What was this place? Strange creatures roamed the streets freely, given nary a second glance from the townsfolk. Carved charms, and even vials of blood were being sold in the stalls. What a strange people - he must stick out like a sore thumb.
Suddenly, self conscious, he slunk away - and just in time too, as a uniformed officer walked past. Just as he thought he was safe, a voice whispered in his ear, and for a moment, he thought he was caught.
"Now, what might you be wanting to purchase that you wouldn't want the Empaths to know about?"
For a moment, Cullos wondered if he could trust this seedy merchant. But common sense prevailed - he needed help.
"Knowledge is all I seek, friend. Firstly, how do I prevent those guards from prying into matters that are none of their business?"
"You're in luck - I deal in knowledge, and that's an easy one. Think hard and strong about what you want the blighters to see, and that's what they'll see, truthful or not. They'll only go for a real dig if they suspect you, and why would they do that?"
"I'm new here, is all. And that brings me onto my next question. How can I find out, quickly and discretely, the history of this place?"
"Argh, that's an easy one. What do you need me for? Some kid is doing a big performance up at the ampitheatre, over there. He's doing a retelling of the history of this fine city, should be exactly what you need."
"My thanks."
"No problem. If you ever got any real questions to ask, come back to me. I quite like the look of that bracelet of yours - it's worth much information."
You learn how to blend in, and you learn the basic history of these people. You also gain a contact should you ever wish to gain more information, IF you are willing to trade your bracelet.
Joseph:
Now he knew why he'd come to the festival - to remind himself why he hated the city so much. So much damn yabbering! Couldn't they learn to keep their thoughts to themselves, instead of throwing them out for all to hear? Still, he had to eat, and for that, he had to sell his wares. Some of the stuff was just ornamental, and held little value to anyone but the collectors - old scraps of plastic and metal that had a use once. He kept the real find safe. Someone high up was coming to look at it. Speak of the demon - here he was now.
"I understand you have something of interest to show me?"
"That is correct. In one of the sites, there was writing using an alphabet I've never seen before. Certainly not English. Here, have a look."
"Most interesting. Tell me, would you be interested in going back to another site where similar writings were found. It's over the mountains, unfortunately, but you'll have guards. No need to make a decision right away either - we leave at the end of the festival. Shall I see you then?'
Feeling somewhat like he'd just been trampled, Joseph watched the mysterious man walk off. The offer was tempting, certainly, but could he stand being around other people that long?
You may now choose whether or not to accept the offer. You also made a bit of cash and sold most of your stuff.
Whew. Tell me anything you liked/didn't like and I'll change it accordingly, especially in relation to the personalities or any questions about your options for the next turn. Also, give me a heads-up if there are any errors.
Turn 1 is officially complete. That took AGES.
