if a dorf is emotionally attached to an article of clothing, does wearing it cancel out the worn clothes bad thought?

Because no one else has said it yet.

You have a dorf Indiana Jones. Make dungeons for him to explore. Lots of cave ins and rolling stones are required. As well as cults, mysterious devices that melt people, eternal life and an appalling fourth installment.  8)

*bump*

just happened to me; the militia commander became attached to his crossbow. i'm guessing it's because he killed a mountain goat with it, and has taken a liking to it. i have no idea of the actual mechanics of the feeling though, would be interesting if some light were to be shed on it (can't find it in the wiki anyway)

awwwww...crap. One of my oldest soldiers became attached to his wooden training spear. I think it's time for his spear to have an unfortunate accident.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Have any of you tried to make them give up the equipment they became attached to, or are you just accepting the hearsay?

I just had a quick bite to eat, so I haven't tried removing it yet.

My plan is to go through ever increasingly complex and arduous methods of removal, starting with a simple forbid, moving all the way up to removing him from the military permanently.

I'm asking because I think I've had a military dwarf become attached to an axe and I believe I was able to just un-assign it from him with no difficulty.

Yep. I did the same. I dumped the spear in question and that was that. Not even a bad thought.

My dwarf just got attached to his wooden training axe -.-

I hope that's a bug.

There are only 2 t's in attached? Crap.

That's hilarious. I would remove him from the military though. He's essentially useless as a soldier now.
On the contrary! Make him the sheriff! He can safely give beatings as punishments, or at least almost safely.
Also make sure you remove his shield and metal gloves. I made the mistake of letting my sheriff have an iron shield.
She used it to bash in the head of the perp.

Anyways, I think dorfs will take action themselves unless sheriff deals out the punishments or prison time and it's
prettu much murder when they do. I had a noble kill a lot of perps when they were never punished and enough
time had passed to gather him some justice rage. So it's most efficient to have a sheriff with no shield and a
training axe or no weapons to deal out justice. Or, at least taht's my experiences in the matter

Why on earth would you let him wield one in the first place? They're only useful as danger rooms' spikes.

I just got a similar message from one of my military dwarfs.

Momuz Necikfeb Woodcrafter has grown attached to a steel battle axe!

Anyone figure out what this means yet?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh, yeah, I know that one.

So, you know how if you tie a rope around a tree, and come back years later, the tree will have grown around the same rope? Same basic concept. The guy had a battle axe sticking out of him, he grew a bit, and now his flesh has actually reformed around the blade.

I've had dorfs name 4 items. one iron shield, 2 adamantine axes and one adamantine sword. They're now listed in the artefact list. Does this mean they're now somehow better than they were before?

They've got their own kill-lists too and people who've wielded them while killing stuff are named.

All weapons now have kill lists. Even items that were used to kill with the miscellaneous item user skill will have their kills listed in the item description. That part is totally normal. So is getting named for killing notable beings. A new word is added after every kill, I think, and it maxes at five.

Toady One has said that weapon naming is supposed to make it better. Like DarkDragon said, it brings them up to semi-artifact status.

Because life was safe and happy. I wanted him to spar with a training spear so that he'd actually be of some use once I got round to making him a proper metal one.

If you are using version .16 you don't need training weapons because sparing is 100% safe now even with the most deadly weapons.
