Dwarf has grown attached to an object.
« on: April 06, 2010, 12:37:54 am »

This soldier has become attached to his hat. Has anyone else gotten this?

So far he's been sitting in his bedroom doing nothing. He has no specific job

, but there are hauling duties available for him to pursue.

I haven't gotten that yet, but I think it means they will refuse to replace that piece of equipment.

I had got something similar to this with one of my hammerdwarves growing attached to a steel warhammer after my war with the elephants.

As for that injury: Do you have a hospital set with the all the need materials, I believe compound fractures require a traction table and powder to fix.

I wonder if he'll tantrum when it rots off of his head.

Because the doctor treated him he can work/fight as normal instead of having to heal in a bed.

New question! If I were to remove elves [INTELLIGENT] tag in the raws, would it work?

I had an insane tanner grow attached to his pig tail sock.
I initially assumed it was part of his madness

I just got a similar message from one of my military dwarfs.

Momuz Necikfeb Woodcrafter has grown attached to a steel battle axe!

Anyone figure out what this means yet?

If I recall from reading the changelog before this version was released, dorfs will grow attached to objects and possibly eventually name them, giving them "semi-artifact" status.

I think growing attached to them is the first step in the process.

Well, after a sufficiently long time, dwarves will fuse to particular items, and become unable to remove them from their bodies. By this time, they won't want to, either.

Not only dwarves. I set up an arena fight between 200 dwarves and 50 dragons. I forgot to take the chain mail off the dragons. I only found out why only 3 dragons were killed when I started getting 'Dragon #48 has become attached to a steel mail shirt' or something like that after the fight.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.
Only in Dwarf Fortress...

That's hilarious. I would remove him from the military though. He's essentially useless as a soldier now.

I see a future for him as a Legendary Woodcutter.

My military commander/miner just became attached to his mining pick.
My way of explaining it is this:

No, but really. I'm just going with it being something you use for a while and like a lot. Like a favorite shirt....

Oh, yeah, I know that one.

So, you know how if you tie a rope around a tree, and come back years later, the tree will have grown around the same rope? Same basic concept. The guy had a battle axe sticking out of him, he grew a bit, and now his flesh has actually reformed around the blade.

What do you really need to turn Elves into Dwarves? Mutation could make them grow a beard; insanity effects could make them evil-minded, aggressive, tree-hating cave dwellers, and instant, full necrosis of their lower legs could make them short.
