beer lake ftw

Maybe I wouldn't feel guilty about drowning nobles if I had this piped to all the rooms

Bumping because I like this idea.

I want to be able to build small single-tile kegs, capable of holding 100 drink each. Also larger 3x3 kegs, which hold 1000 drink each!
Also, keep stockpiles of mugs and goblets nearby. Dwarves get better thoughts from using expensive goblets to drink expensive drinks from bejeweled kegs.

Also, beer-pools/fountains which can be designated as drinking sources. Mist from beerfalls would make dwarves deliriously happy.

This would all be awesome.. and I would not need close to 5000 barrels to hold all my alcohol.

quote:
Originally posted by TerminatorII:
then when they brew that type of Booze they just dump it down the right hole!

Sweet idea, but the problem here is that if there isn't a "Tap" or some way to cap-off the drinking pool, it will over-flow due to the way pressure is implemented in the next version. (that being that the game considers all areas to have equal air pressure, so liquid always equalizes)

Since when is pressure going to be changed for the next version? Did I miss something?

Haha. You missed that you quoted a post from 2007.

For the sake of variety, I want to be able to age alchohol (and things like balsamic vinegar) in barrels of different wood.

It'd be great if the game would keep track of how many years a given liquid had been aged in a barrel of a particular wood.

Let us not forget where the Grapes were grown! as well as possible additions.

Though I think we already had topics on this.

Whoops, missed thread necromancy.

BTW, a "single-tile keg" we already have. It's called a freaking barrel. All we need are better methods of reserving them for the purpose.

Personally, I'd like to see reusable barrels, rather then having them disappear whenever dwarves are done drinking from them.
Or, they don't actually do that, and I haven't been paying enough attention.

yeah we have barrels..but you can't decorate them and build them as furniture, to improve the moods of dwarves drinking from them. Keg's would make the perfect spot to arrange parties around.
I'd also like to see a menu to dump various liquids into the keg, similar to dumping animals into a cage. Different combinations of mixed drinks would either increase or decrease the value of the drink.

They're reusable.

Well, keeping track of the geography is probably a bit much to ask for...I think that could be taken care of by just having different varieties of grapes, or whatnot. If they come from different biomes, they come from a different location.

Different harvest times might be a factor though, for something like icewine, say.

Additions is great. I've been getting into beer brewing, myself, and it's actually a lot of fun. Being able to grow different kinds of hops, cook malt, add spices and other flavorings, use the alchemist's shop to isolate yeast strains, the metalsmith and the glassmaker to make various equipment, and then being able to carbonate and age the brew (in a variety of different barrels), would make for a whole other interesting aspect of the game.

Not for everyone, ofcourse, but so what?
It won't cost any players that are already here, and it might even bring a few in.

It's science that'll get ya drunk! In a virtual fantasy setting, with health risks and social embarassment set aside, what's not to like?

A deep, involved brewing process that includes tracking kegs and their contents, and possibly having the ability for our dwarfs to switch them out, on a yearly-or several years-basis, seems like one of those quirky little areas where DF really excells.

They're not disappearing, they're getting hauled back to the furniture stockpile, or used in a different food stockpile.

Keeping track of geography is not much to ask for at all. For example, coin stacks already have data, I THINK, for year and location of minting. Booze is essentially the same thing: Site name and year.

Well ok, throw that into the mix too, while I'm wishing.
