Marksdwarves in 2010
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:16:04 pm »

How do I get the marksdwarves to train shooting with the crossbows? I have read the wiki, all dwarves have crossbows, quivers and bolts, and the bolts are set for both combat and training. They're ordered to train at an archery range, but every time they go there they practice hammering instead.

Same seems to go with actual fighting too; they ignore their bolts completely and head straight to melee.

check what weapon you set them on in the military screen
if it's "individual choice", they will choose whatever they want, but you can set them to "individual choice ranged" which I can only assume orders them to pick up a ranged weapon (thisprobably includes blow guns, if you can get them)
also, you need an arsenal noble to hand out weapons

This is believed to be either even more complicated than the military screen by itself, or a bug. Some people have gotten their marksdwarves to practice their firing aim extremely consistently and effectively, but we're not completely sure how yet.
