Active syndromes.
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:43:15 am »

This screenshot on the wiki shows some syndrome-related information on the creature's description page.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This information does not show up for me. How do I enable it?

It's enabled by default.  If it isn't listed when you look at a creature's stats in the arena, then there are no syndromes on that creature.

But there were syndromes on that creature. Parts of the tissues were blistered and rotting and I was falling unconscious every few turns. I checked the creature's description in between bouts of unconsciousness and I didn't see anything.

The syndrome description never shows up, whether I'm afflicted by giant scorpion venom or a modded creature syndrome.

That's.. very strange.  Try removing the END point of the syndrome, and checking it again?

I set the START to 0 and removed the END of the bleed effect. I started bleeding a short while after I killed the thing that gave me the syndrome, but still no description.

EDIT: I tried a fresh install of DF incase the heavy traffic on April 1 screwed up the file very slightly or something like that. No dice.

Is it possible that syndromes aren't explicitly named and identified until a doctor uses the Diagnosis skill?

That screenshot is in the Arena, though.

Precisely. There are no Doctors in the arena.

Aye, but the screenshot contains syndrome information. I didn't take the screenshot, someone else did. I'm perplexed as to why the syndrome information appears in that arena screenshot but not when I look at the creature description.

Ah! I missed that. Perhaps the player is meant to look in the detailed wound info for poisons?

I figured out the problem -- you can't see it when you're controlling a creature, but you can see while you're the "arena master," so to speak.

Problem solved. Locking topic.
