Ediable and Non-Ediable Mushrooms that grow around your

So im just reading up on dwarfs in AD&D Quintessential guide for dwarfs.

I thought it would be cool if special mushrooms can randomly grow around your fortress.

These mushrooms would be collected by all dwarfs.

The mushrooms can provide any type of skill increase or attribute increase.

Such as a +5 strength or a +5 mining skill.

Some mushrooms would be non edible, these maybe could be used for poisoning weapons, brewing drinks, or that they need to be cooked before they can be ate.

Maybe more mushrooms, especially outside, but not skill increase shrooms.

Being able to refine some type of mushroom into poison/medicine/etc would be awesome.

These mushrooms im talking about are not ones you can farm. They can only grow wild in your fortress.

Something like a special thing. If you could grow them, they wouldn't be too special  :)

Well, you see, I believe there should be actual caverns that accompany cave rivers. That way, you have the opportunity for a real subterranean biome.

Kind of like valley herbs then? Something that is gathered up with herbalism, but doesn't leave any seeds or anything when you're done and so can't be actively farmed.
Seems like an interesting idea for when alchemy gets fleshed out more, use them to make various potions and venoms and the like.

Why the hell would there be a fungus that makes you better at swinging a pickaxe the moment you ate it?

I always found those random skill increases dumb in pretty much any rpg and i don't want them anywhere near my DF.

yeah, I've read the vikings used amanita muscaria mushrooms for their effects.  The jury is out if they used them to cause a beserker's rage, but they actively traded them and consumed them.

A one shot mushroom to increase combat statistics could be useful, but judging the incident of injury already, a dwarf going into a beserker's rage might only be useful against foes like hoary marmots.

The problem is that, in real life, anything that grows can be helped to grow by people. DF is trying to emulate real life to some degree, so having powerups that appear in the same way fruit appears in Pac-Man would be kinda immersion breaking.

My stray dogs often chase fire imps back into the magma pipe and then continue fighting while burning and drowning in the lava. Truly their loyalty knows no bounds, but perhaps it should.
