Adamantine High Boots?
« on: April 04, 2010, 04:35:59 pm »

I dont see an option to make adamantine high boots at my forge, I see everything else including low boots, but no high boots...

I remember in 40d sometimes your civ simply wouldn't have access to some armor types... is that still the case?

Well, if you have adamantium and the fuel, highboots should be there. Some of my dwarfs are wearing them right now, so they "should" be there.

They're most likely listed as COMMON, but my most recent fortress civ didn't have access to them either and in the military uniforms list they were shown as "foreign". I guess it's just bad luck.

DF Players never truly leave.  They just abandon the fortress for a few years and then reclaim.

Check to see if the climate of your embark site is "hot" or "scorching."  As I recall, you can't build high boots in hotter environments; only low boots.

All else fails, you can try an order it from the manager of your fort.

Works for soap.

Gotta bump this to say, I have always had this problem with high boots as well, from 40d on.  Sometimes, they would randomly NEVER appear again, even when they earlier had in the same fort.  Does anyone know why this happens?

You can order adamantine soap? That's a neat trick. ;)

Yes, that is still the case.

I noticed that yeah, high boots of any sort are no longer available to be smithed at the forge. You can import them, but dwarves can't forge them.

I just started a new fort, but in my last one I distinctly remember making low and high iron boots.  Maybe this is a bug?

This happened in 40d too. The game occasionally randomly decides to screw the player over by excluding pieces of armor or clothing from what they can build in fortress mode due to the [COMMON] definition.

I think it is for the purposes of cultural flavor.

I was under the impression that high boot availability (and other armor types--like from elves, if you bothered to buy their armor) is not available depending on the temperature.

Sometimes you can trade for them if you are in the wrong spot, but not always.

You'll notice in some forts, based on location, the military lists high boots as a normal armor to equip.  If it is not available in your area, it will list them as foreign.
