Hey guys,
I know some of us Mac users are really itching to get ahold of df2010 and get dwarfing, so I took a moment to help you out if you're interested in getting a head start. Even though we don't have a d# build, nor the SDL/OpenGL repack yet, DF does work quite well in Wine, so to that end, I've prepared a .app with the wine binaries included to make it easy if you want to give it a try.
You can find the latest revision here:
http://wrongpath.net/projects/files/df/builds/df_mayday_osx_latest.zipand old versions [as well as some 28x40 builds] here:
http://wrongpath.net/projects/files/?dir=df/buildsSome things to note, since I've taken the liberty of making some modifications to the inits to make it more mac-friendly:
- It uses the mayday tileset (though using the bmps, not PNG yet)
- MaxPop 80, until I know it'll run okay with that
- 1280x720 default windowed resolution (so you have the menu bar + dock)
By default it uses custom key bindings
- sub-selector mapped to square brackets
- z-level up/down mapped to triangles
- Autosave (could be buggy.)
As well as some other minor init tweaks. My experience has been good so far; but I can really only hope it works for others. If you have any problems, I can try my best to address them...
A couple things to note: If you want access to to the init-files, saves or movies, just 'show package contents' on the app and there are links directly to them right there as well as the saves dir. The entire directory structure for df is actually copied over to ~/Library/Application Support/Wine/prefixes/df_30x01/drive_c/winebottler/ and from there the directory structure should be fairly familiar.
I get over 100fps with 20 dwarves on a late-2k8 unibody macbook. Your mileage may vary. I attempted to play on a winXP vm and was getting a mere 35fps with the default 7 dwarves, so this was certainly an improvement.
Good luck, fellow dwarfers. Let me know if you have any suggestions or have any problems.
