Hospital Layouts
« on: April 04, 2010, 02:15:32 pm »

What are your hospital zones looking like? Personally I haven't gotten far enough to see ambushes/sieges, thanks to bugs, crashes and other frustrations.

ITT: Discuss what things you put in your hospital and where. What methods seem to work for you?

Ive got my hostpitals set up with 8 3X3 rooms, 4 on either side with a table and bed in each one with a 2 wide hallway down the middle. the requisite thread and such storage in a side room.

in a game that bugged on me before i saved i had a doc suture up two severely wounded dwarves before one died of infection and then a dabbling surgeon spent afew months trying to patch up a hunter.

How does one set up thread/crutch storage? Do I put a finished goods pile inside of the hospital and it gets done on its own?

Oh, and should I use more beds or traction benches?

You should build chests/coffers/bags in hospital zone.

That's it? That seems undwarfily simple.

So simple, even a goblin could do it!

I have my hospital at the end of a long narrow hallway to avoid any noise, It is saped like an L , the longest side has beds and the short one has the tables and chests.

I am currently constructing a tower-fortress, and on the floor above the entrance plaza lies the dining room, lower-military barracks, and hospital.

The top right corner of the tower houses the recovery ward, with twelve beds in a room, a small storage room adjacent to the north. To the right of the room is the surgical room, with 3 retraction benches and 3 tables.

To the south of the recovery ward is the Chief Medical Dwarf's office and bedroom. Further south, a large room houses the majority of the hospital's supplies.

Beds get used a lot, I haven't seen them use the traction bench or tables yet.  Storage space gets stuff put into it, but I'm not sure they actually pull stuff from it.  I haven't paid close enough attention.

Having the hospital near a well and food stocks seems like a good idea.  Also coffins.

Traction benches are for setting bones, mostly. I think they may also use them to operate, but I haven't seen it. Beds are for rest. Storage is for storing. I believe tables are for operation.

You need to have the proper materials available before you're able to cue the task in the workshop. The tallow is easy, but the lye must be in a barrel before it can be used for soap production. So you'll have to create a lye stockpile that allows barrels and just wait for a hauler to come transfer the lye from the bucket to the barrel.
