I've been such a fool! (Mac Users Rejoice!)
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:15:06 pm »

For days I've been reading these posts of the glory of the new patch.  But only now has it occurred to me to do what seems to have been so obvious.  I can run the new version in an emulator!  Specifically I'm using Codeweaver's crossover games, and so far it works great!  (also they have a free trial you can use if you're a cheap sob like me)

So I could just run mah Dwarfity Forts on this without having to install OS's and all that jazz? I looked into this months back but I couldn't bring myself to download out of ignorance.

that's pretty much the case. i don't know about the other emulators, but with wine you just right-click on your dwarfy exe file, tell it to open with wine, and then start looking for the perfect embark site.  enjoy ;D

Figuring how to get wine to respond has been half the Fun.  :( Other half still pending.

Running it under bootcamp here.. I have wine setup on the osx partition though. I have to confess, I get a giggle thinking of someone playing this type of game, yet not wanting to go through a quick windows xp install to play natively.

a lack of windows xp was really what held me back from that - though i did consider getting it for gearhead2... wine was not so responsive there.
