Awesomeness Overload(spoiler-ish)

So I had my first large visitor from the depths, a horrid monster older than time itself. A gigantic 160 ton beakless Oxpecker(beware of its webs)! Its name was Usasp Drinkkings the Oceanic Lowness and its wrath was great. It charged at my helpless weavers and killed many a dwarf. The military ran hastily to stop the carnage. Many fell in the resulting battle. The Beast sent my Axedwarves flying across the carvern to die colliding with the stalagmites. But one brave dwarf overcame the monsters ferocity and managed to deliver a killing blow. The beast finally fell but not before claiming 5 lives including that of my expedition leader.

The Fortress was saves.

We buried the dead.

What happened later was beauty.

A farmer, who dabbled in butchery claimed the monsters gigantic carcass. Slowly but surely he moved towards the butchers shop. The eyes of the entire fort gazed upon him as the placed it at the table.

Butchering the forgotten beast gave 422 units of meat and a hide. Calling whatever you want: a bug, a job cooler then many an artifact, but I know one thing.

This is the most awesome thing that ever happened to me in fortress mode.

So kill a monster, feed ten thousand.

Awesome.

By the sounds of things it would be easier to just build a butcher's shop next to the corpse each time.

update: apart from the meat the beast yielded 18 units of prepared brains, 42 units of intestines and 28 units of lungs.

It could have 18 brains.  :o

However, I think a better explaination is that we measure them in "units", not "brains".
Say that (for example) a normal dwarf brain weighs 1kg (probably too high a number to be honest  :D), that would be one unit of brain. This forgotten beast has only one brain, but that brain weighs 18kg. The dwarf just split it up into 1kg chunks for storage.  ;)

I think it just has one big brain.

THIS JUST IN: another beast, a dimetrodon, this one was pretty pathetic though. I hope they butcher it too. It did however have "deadly blood" so i hope it doesn't give everyone food posioning.

EDIT: Yep, they're butchering the second one too. Wow this is outstanding!

Amount of meat depends on size or tissue layout. I butchered some beasts recently, and they yield ~150 meat units for me.

Hmm... I have no modding experience, but looking at the raws it seems brains have a [DEFAULT_RELSIZE:200], which (in a simple humanoid) is about twice the size of things like a foot, 2/3rds of a head, and a fifth of things like a lower torso.

Sounds about right actually (size-wise).
According to the internet (Google: human brain weight), an adult human brain weighs ~1.3-1.4kg. Since a Dwarf is smaller than a human, it is conceivable for a Dwarf brain to be about 1 kilogram.

EDIT: Looking further, I found the creature_standard file and see that a Dwarf has a [BODY_SIZE:0:0:3000], and a human [BODY_SIZE:0:0:4000]. Simple math then states that a dwarf is three-quarters of a human. 1.3-1.4kg * .75 = 0.975-1.05kg.

Yay, I was right all along  ;D

a dwarf may be smaller, but usually their heads are portrayed as being as big, or even bigger, than humans', in fantasy drawings
