ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:34:37 am »

I won't make a stand on whether Republican policy in general is right or wrong. However, this is just ridiculous. One would think that a friggin' potential vice president could do better than association fallacy. Seriously? Three hundred million people, and this is the best we could do? You might as well say "I see Hitler and Stalin both had mustaches, and I don't." Urgh.

EDIT: Discussion about Obama's health care policy should be here. In fact, anything not about this quote should be there, probably.

EDIT: Never mind. The thread has degenerated into off-topic ranting. There is no hope left in this wasteland.

Sarah Palin has been called many things, but smart is not one of them.

I don't know which Presidential race you were last watching, but I up to speed from about Day 2 on that one.  It really is astounding isn't it?

I don't look into politics much, thus causing a feedback loop that only increases others' apathy and so on and so forth, but meh.

Because cheap healthcare is communist, and communist ideals involves killing people en mass, therefore, cheap healthcare kills loads and loads of people. Silly people.

The better comparison would have been with Greece.  We're almost 13 trillion in the hole and Obama is blowing our grandkids' money on new entitlements like it was "Brewster's Millions".

There have been numerous comparisons to Hitler (not just MENTIONS of Hitler) made by Fox News types. A significant percentage of Republicans (as quoted on Fresh Air on NPR) believe Obama is doing "a lot of the same things Hitler did." A somewhat smaller, but still extremely huge compared to how small it would have to be to not be terrifying, percentage believe he is the Antichrist.

I realize that this sort of this is a grand old American tradition dating back from the days when politicians who disagreed used to shoot each other in duels, but still. The day when people like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are not only taken seriously but are seen as the ideological leaders of an important third-party-ish movement is the day that one more breathing tube is removed from the fragile, anemic body of the republic.

Also, I'm a person of southern German ancestry who has a moustache,* likes listening to Wagner, and wants to do art but isn't very good at it.  Guess that makes me Hitler too.  See, making meaningless comparisons is easy!

Hitler liked sunny weather! By going outside today, I am showing my sympathy for the mass murder of 12 million people!

Actually, the vile rumor that Hitler liked sunny weather was definitely disproven by careful studies of Hitler's speech days, days in which he stayed home, etc. and extrapolation from various weather systems, psychological inquiries into Hitler's personal decisions based off of his weather preferences, etc. by Urist McResearcher in his 1983 paper, "Why Hitler Really Hated Sunny Weather". So, in fact, by going outside, you are in fact showing your solidarity against these actions. Go outside today! Fight Nazis!

So you're saying the largest war and human genocide in history was predicated on Seasonal Affective Disorder?  Stupid whining Seattle-ites.

I would have.

By the way, doesn't Cuba have the best healthcare system in the world or something?

Something strikes me as very wrong when people dislike an idea because someone they hate likes.

Hmmm, a cursory glance at Wikipedia tells me it does. Apparently Cuba itself is terrible, being really poor, having no freedoms, and so on; however, even with these challenges, the health care system manages to bring a life expectancy rate almost that of the U.S., and Cuba's AIDS rate is one sixth of the U.S. That being said, that could be due to other things, like Americans eating too much junk food or something (the life expectancy bit, not the AIDS bit. How would that even work?).
