Militia vs Army
« on: April 04, 2010, 12:36:12 am »

The new military screen gives much more options, but at the same time causes lots of micromanagement and annoyances when you only need to set a few dwarves to fight.

Why not have 2 options?
A militia that trains when "not busy," but otherwise handles similar to the old version. Very simple and easy to add/remove dwarves. They train very slow  and would be more for attacking enemies when nearby rather than sending them out to attack. A simple option would send all militia to stop working and attack.

Also, there would be an "Army" that is like the new version. Dwarves would train all day at a faster rate, and would take it as their full time job. The army would carry the tough weapons and be stationed, etc.

Sorry if posted before.

It seems there already are both variants: militia and regular, full-time army, the latter's just unavaliable until you have a baron. Look here:

Not that I'm against the idea of revamping them so militia is simpler and leaving the complex regulations for when you have full-time military.
