Making planks?

How would I go about editing the raw files to add a new item (planks) and the new 'reaction' in the carpentry?

I'm trying to make planks, so I can make wood into a bunch of planks, which I can use to build structures, since I want to do an above-ground dwarf town and I don't feel like clearing out an entire forest (no matter how dwarvenly that may be) to do it.

It'd be less work and probably less buggy to just use a free-log reaction.

Is the whole "can't use blocks to make doors/beds/everythingelse" bit on purpose or is this a horrible bug?

Not sure about doors but I know you can only make beds out of wood. Just mine some new stone for your doors.

does the errorlog.txt file say anything about missing items/reactions? Did you include the header tag in your custom file?
