For all my fortresses in the new version, immigrants seem to come in waves of 7-10, and they come earlier. I actually got an immigrate wave before I had even set up my first farm!

Interestingly, I had this same thing in .28 with my custom-made civilizations. I would get immigrants earlier then I would expect and usually big waves of them.

If I remember, Toady made it so that immigrant groups actually have to travel the world map to get to you, or something. The closer you are to a dwarven civ, the sooner and more immigrants you get. Or I might have dreamed this. I don't remember.

Ive had the exact opposite problem. I have had 10-20 dwarf migrations twice or three times a year.
I have 82 dwarves, and Im only finally getting proper workshop space set up inside my fortress. Thats not counting the 30-40 deaths ive had that do NOTHING to stem the tide of immigration.
The only problem I'd have with that is the need to build graves for those dwarves.

...Then again, I could try that above-ground graveyard...
magma. Saves on burial costs.

Yeah but graveyards and catacombs are awesome if you make them fancy enough.

I'm getting MORE immigrants. 4 years in I have 90 dwarves. I have 48 bedrooms.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.
Only in Dwarf Fortress...

2 years in and I still have 12 (2 died, that's probably the problem I'm facing)
the obnoxious thing is, though, the two died ignoring the wells and dehydrating themselves

I don't think that it is a wealth thing, I have almost 140k worth of wealth. (started on a human town for there military since I can't get my military up and running) I just recieved a third wave, total 13 dwarves. Interesting note, 2 out of the 3 waves the two people were married couples.

I got barely any immigrants in my waves, but they arrive much earlier than usually. Before my fall dwarven caravan even.

At the Moment they will not stop working to eat or drink. you need to do everything by steps to ensure they don't die.

My understanding is they will stop to go eat/drink/ect but not untill they reach critical levels requiring supplies to be nearby.

I haven't had any one die from not eating or drinking yet, they always just finish up one last thing then head off to eat/drink whenever they get really hungry or thirsty.
