From what I gather other folks have been saying, you have to find a
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
then
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
which opens up your path. Obviously, it's probably going to be faster to just open up a fortress and dig.

Wouldn't know from experience, though. Still haven't found a bloody temple, much less traveled to the third layer without having a doomed-fort dig me a way down.

Yes, however I cant seem to find the demonic place.

Well they only appear as often as adamantine did in the last version, so it won't be easy to find it.

made it to the third floor and found some adamantite tubes.
then i got wounded by some crundels or something similar to that and i thought that if i sleep my wounds would heal up.... i woke up when troll grabbed around my neck and strangled me to death.
too bad, lost aroun 40 units of booze and fruits that i gathered from some giant :(

also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWW38l0RhFI that is also good music to listen while underground :)

Well, there's a demonic Fortress once per 16x16 Embark area, if you understand.

So if you only embark on a 4x4 map on Fortress mode, the odds of finding the Fort aren't good. That's what I've found from my personal experience.

I'm currently trying to determine if the underground goes under the ocean as well. :3

I've definitely had quest log zoom point to under the sea before, if that helps any.

Should be pretty easy to test, though. Just take a fort right beside the sea and dig straight down, 'till yeh breach the cavern. Abandon and go check. Mind you, might have to do some hunting to find a sea-adjacent embark tile that isn't blocked by an aquifer, but that's a pretty trifling issue, heh.

Aquifers always pissed me off, so I made a habit out of deleting them from my games. >_>

Though, I'm curious if deleting aquifers affects underground water sources. =/

But yeah, I'll take a look soon. I'm mostly playing Dwarf mode now, trying to make a successful fort. @_@

EDIT: I traveled far under the ocean. I'd say it's confirmed. @_@

Nothing much under the ocean, except a bit of lag, due to the ocean above me.

And there was an annoying Jamaican Crab too, who kept singing, "Under the Sea~". -Joking-

Now I can build the ancient city of R'lyeh in honor of the Lovecraftian Mythos. o:

I've noticed something... You tend to find less paths down if you swim in the rivers. Better to stay on dry ground, even if it takes you up and down a bunch.

My elven adventurer have found a MASSIVE slade complex, it goes down untold z-levels, and it is filled with hordes of skeletal and zombie snake-men, reptile-men, ant-men, and some zombie amphibia-men.

Amazing, they are harmless, but my hunger and thirst is a problem.

If the underground extends beneath the sea, I wonder if we can somehow get down there and drain the sea into the pits?

I have been wandering the underground for ages, i've spotted raw adamantite three times. I recently found another expansive cavern deep underground. I think this is the last underground cavern before the curious structure.. I hope to find it and attend as an honorary guest. Finally, after 3 hours of wandering the depths i find my first foes. Two gelatinous cubes. I'm going numb, after.. many hours of searching the underground caverns nonstop, i finally give up. Nothing happened, it was a boring festival, no clowns anywhere. All i found was cubes, 5 magma pools and enough adamantite to supply a fortress for years.

I will continue this amazingly mind-numbing trek tomorrow.

Someone ever found a Forgotten Beast underground in Adventure Mode?
I'm beginning to suspect that is impossible.
