Farming in 2010
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:28:54 pm »

So I've been trying to get farming to work and wasn't able to - I had gotten some water on the farm plots but the dwarves refused to plant anything. I tried tapping into ponds and having the water cover a room and even then it wouldn't work.
Finally on my third embark, after nearly flooding the fort with a water wheel and pump and drowning sacrificing my fisher dwarf, I found that some of the flooded areas could be used for farming.
Apparently it requires a significantly larger amount of water to make something muddy now.

Hope this helps: I spent a while waiting and wondering why no crops were being grown to the point I had to resort to foraging for berries like some idiot elf to survive!
To compensate, I'm constructing the bridge to my fort and the trade depot, out of wood.

Well if this helps any I just found out that ALL of the farm plots tiles must be muddied prior to building the farm.

you can still farm aboveground without mud. I find myself foraging to get seeds then farm.
