SPEED:1 in DF2010?
« on: April 03, 2010, 01:54:33 pm »

I am attempting a megaproject but speed:1 doesnt seem to do anything in DF2010... Also there is no data/objects folder to delete. How do I give my guys super speed?

It's been mentioned/noted in probably a dozen+ places already, but the piece of information you're looking for is that there's individual raw files in the particular region's save; you need to edit those in order to change how a critter works in-game without regenning the world.

The basic raw/objects files are only called when you generate a world (or specifically choose it in arena mode); afterwards, any on-the-fly editing has to be done via the individual save's files.

Speed:0 dwarves are working just fine, so you shouldn't have any trouble with it, once you're working in the right spot.

There are still pathing issues that may or may not be aggravated by speed:0

What is a dwarf's unmodded speed? (how much faster does [SPEED:1] make them?)

I believe it's 1000.
A dwarf usually takes a step every 10 frames, a speed 1 dwarf takes 10 steps a frame (or thereabouts.)

Actually due to the game's formula you can crank the speed up to -99
(the speed formula is like Speed = 1000/100+SPEED) where SPEED is the speed you put in the tag.
Speed -99 means you get 1000 speed (I did try it and it works)

And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

Yeah any negative values were culled. At SPEED:0 there were fun things in Adventure mode where you could hit multiple enemies and it was like a time-stop, then you made a move and BANG they flew in various directions simulationesly.

Umm... to be more specific, "Speed" is actually a delay with a misleading moniker.

Having done some testing with the agility attribute and the psuedo-adventurer mode in the testing arena, I can say that the 40d rules seem to continue to apply in every area but the way that the agility attribute works.
