Ranged skill?
« on: April 03, 2010, 10:32:37 am »

I was messing with the arena to check out the ranged combat nerf, and I set 4 dwarves to Grand Master Marksdwarves with xbows and bolts. They fired a ton of bolts at a proficient goblin spearman in iron armor and killed him eventually. The thing I noticed was after the battle my marksdwarves had become novice archers. I guess that means you need 2 skills for ranged combat now?

I am not entirely sure. In my adventure mode my 'fighting' skill is going up while I'm using *cough* 'my' battle axe. I suppose the fighting skill is all around ability to do battle and then you have the specific weapon proficiencies...

EDIT: -and that could mean that marksman weapons are the same

I did some testing with the other skills like biting and kicking, but my marksdwarf never used them, even after being forced to let go of the xbow or ammo. One ability that was used fairly often was counterstriking. The goblin would strike and the dwarf would counter the strike. Not sure what that means.
