Hey guys,

Loving the new DF but I cannot assign any sort of Arsenal Dwarf on my nobles screen.  He's just not there.  And since I can't assign an arsenal dwarf I cannot equip any of my dorfs with any items!!!  Which means my fort is not going to last very long upon finding any HFS or sieges...

In my nobles screen I have:

Expedition Leader
Militia Commander
Sheriff
Manager
Cheif Medical Dwarf
Broker
Bookkeeper
Militia Captain (unassigned)



Where the hell do I assign an arsenal dorf??? Any help would be VERY appreciated!!!

Ah, thank you very kindly, I have not seen any mention of that limit.  I'll see what happend when I hit 20 dorfs then.  Does that mean that equipping your military dorfs with any items is impossible before you get 20 dorfs?  Because that kinda really sucks!

Also, am I right in assuming that there is now no way to differentiate between civilians and military dorfs?  For example, all my military dorfs are still referred to as "Carpenter" or "Stonecrafter", even though they are currently training...

They will turn into soldiers once you give them an order. (That or they are currently in the barracks. Play with the schedule a bit)

Military Dwarves will collect their equipment - I've had them collect specific equipment and sent them on forays into caves.

The wiki already has some information on this. Look for the 'DF2010:military guide' page.  Supposedly, they will pick up what they need until your population grows enough to get an arsenal dwarf. Its only after that that they need to go through proper channels.

They do currently have an order to train, 1 minimum.  They are currently in dodging demonstrations, but are still referred to by their labour professions over their military ones...  I'll play around a little more see if I can figure it out.

Don't worry if they're in civilian profession. Set their alert from Inactive to the Active/Train setting in the Military->Alerts screen.

However that causes them to train until they tantrum/go insane. Leaving them inactive seems to let them train, but they'll take breaks to drink/eat/sleep/whatever.

- Have 39 Dwarves
- Have a Barracks
- Have created several weapons, both training and combat-ready
- Have assigned a military leader.
- Have created a squad that is active and "waiting for combat training" or whatever.
- Have created a few pieces of weapons and armor.

No Arsenal Dwarf appears in the nobles screen.  I've tried disbanding the squad, breaking down the barracks and reissuing military command, thinking it might get it to work or something.  Nothing doing.  I'm beginning to think it's a bug.  Nothing I've read online has been able to help me.  So.

Have you tried, save game / quit / reload? I only suggest it because it's the DF equivalent of "TRY REBOOTING"

I've seen a few cases now where the AD doesn't get listed until some random change is done that's totally irrelevant; going to add a note to the wiki and assume it's a bug.

The same thing happened to me and I was on 80+ dwarves. Eventually half my nobles were killed due to acid rain - that left me with just the military nobls left on the screen, everything else was gone.

Eventually the options came back including arsenal dwarf without any reason as far as I'm aware.

Hmm I'm at 37 or so dwarves and have no arsenal dwarf position available yet.
Have 9 soldiers, various weapons & armor...
