Going up and down z levels quickly (Possible spoilers)

I've dug my way down about 30 z levels in order to get into the caverns and I'm finding it to be a massive pain moving between the surface and the depths. Is there anyway to get up and down more quickly than repeatedly pressing the < and > buttons? I thought I might be able to place a note that I could quickly navigate to, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Any tips?

On an unrelated note, why aren't stockpiles labeled anymore? I always place a bunch on the surface when I first embark and it's much harder to tell which is which now.

the trick i use is to go to announcements and zoom in on something you know is close to the top.
