embark anywhere sorta works on DF 31.01

so far in two tests it works on mountains yet when I first used it on a edge of a frozen lake it crashed.

It has never worked terribly well with water, at least not as far as I can see.  Ice or not, your dwarves will still be starting out in a water-only area, which has always been buggy from my end.  Not once have I successfully started out in a water-only area, and again, it will register as such regardless of temperature.

All I can tell you is not to try to embark on lakes or oceans, it won't work.  If it's any consolation, you aren't alone.
