On the topic of evil-banishing metals, how could cold iron be worked into this game?

Just out of curiosity.

According to this cold iron is iron that hasn't been artificially heated and/or meteoric iron. So, carve yourself a hammer out of haematite?

I think they should make silver weapons be very strong against the undead. Perhaps bring them up to steel modifier (or perhaps better) against undead only.

Nah, just make all your silver into crossbow bolt.
"I surmise these goblins are the most hated goblins of all goblins."
"Why do you say that, professor?"
"They're all filled with 10,000 dwarf buck worth of silver bolts."

"I guess when they tried to break the bank... the bank broke them."

... Yes, the hugs are for everyone.  No stabbing, though.  Just hugs.

Perhaps make it the same thing as adamantine strand extraction, except with iron. Maybe produce it at the blacksmith's workshop, except it requires no fuel.

Fairly weak against most enemies, but works very well on undead?

My current fort has a lot of coal and iron, and masterwork serrated iron discs go for 15000 dwarfbucks each.

A dwarf's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Fortress which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts.
