Pull up the gold entry in the inorganic_metal.txt file and add [ITEMS_WEAPON] to allow it to be made into melee weapons, [ITEMS_WEAPON_RANGED] for crossbows, [ITEMS_AMMO] for ammunition, or [ITEMS_DIGGER] to make picks out of it. Feel free to use all or just some of these tokens. Note that is you want to change a game in progress you will need to edit the data/save raw files, not the overall ones.

Can someone refresh me here? How do I tell again what civilizations made it or are nearby? I know the C key will show me who I'm at war with, but I understand you only see those if you've already interacted.

If I'm at 2 or 3 years, and have had 2 dwarf caravans but no one else, what's going on?

I did have some caravans take untill year three to get to me though, most often the humans, and I don't care about elf

Obsidian isn't in the stone restrictions menu or am I just blind?

If not is the only way to avoid using it to forbid it all?

It's not in the stones screen since it has the tag [MAX_EDGE:20000]. Remove that and it should appear. You can max forbid them instead, d-b-f.
Are there any other consequences to removing that tag?

You won't be able to use obsidian to make rock short swords :(

Oh noes. Good thing there's magma and iron right next to obsidian then.

1) Where's the !!SCIENCE!! meme from?

2) Has there been !!SCIENCE!! done on safely training dorfs against disarmed captured goblins? The idea is so very enticing, but my guys just butcher them instantly and learn nothing.

It is possible that they will only spawn on the mainland.  Traders only spawn on map edges which the civilization that send the trade caravan can reach.  If your map has an impassible barrier in it, like a river or part of an ocean, then the civilization which sends the trade caravan will probably be only able to reach one side of the map, so trade caravans will only appear on that map edge.

Are Moose Men, Badger Men, and other similar types of creatures hostile? I've had a Moose Man kill a dwarf before, but I also see them not bothering my dwarfs most of the time. I've been very hesitant to send dwarfs out to gather plants and chop wood because of it, so I figured I'd ask to make sure the threat is actually real.

Can anyone list all the uses for stone that can't be substituted with any other material? For example, plaster powder can only be acquired by using stone, is there other ones? This includes stone, flux minerals etc.

Flux stones for making pig iron and steel.
Metal ores.
Obsidian for stone short swords.

There may be others, but I can't think of any.
