Alright, I was filling up a moat with water and a war dog decided to wait on the other side of the wall.  When I let the water in, I thought for sure it would have drowned, but for some reason it's just chilling and not drowning.  Is there an explanation for this?  It's submerged in 7/7 water and I threw a dwarf in for good measure and he's drowned while the dog hasn't.

They won't drown unless there's a ceiling above them or unless they get stunned.  A drop causes stunning.  Even in the case of stunning, there's a chance of survival.

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

It didn't drop, it was just in the way when the water filled the moat.

It's just in a 7/7 water pit with 4/7 water in the space above it.

I believe I have a dogfish.

Even if he didn't fall he should have been stunned when the water washed over him, no?

Dogs have [SWIMS_INNATE] which is why he didn't drown right off. Not sure why he isn't drowning if he's still got 4/7 water above him. Try making it 7/7?

I have wild badgers and foxes in the same pit. If the badgers enrage, will they murder the foxes?

Are halberds useful to cut trees? I mean, are they like battle axes, or just a weapon?
I'm playing with humans and instead of battle axes got 4 halberds.

Yes, they do not need booze, they can work entirely off of water.

You would think that, but the guy thought encasing himself in fire was a good idea.

My screw pump is frozen. It is winter, but the pump is 6 Z-levels below my windmill, inside.  There are also firefly remains in the same square as the pump, but no one will dump them.  Any ideas on what the problem is?

You can, however, cut trees with a wooden training axe- the three logs you get out of the wagon are more than enough to get you one.

Have you channeled out the space below the windmill? If you did and you have empty space leading down to the pump then it could freeze that way.

Yep, that's what I've got. Is there another way? And is there any way to thaw out the pump?

Think I made a mistake, was creating a way to train my medical dwarves.  so I dug a 2 zlevel hole and put a hatch on top linked to a lever.  I create a stairwell going from my hospital to the bottom of the hole, thinking my doctors would go and put the dwarf in a bed and begin treating him.
I burrowed a dwarf on the hatch and hurt him, but no doctors have helped him. One dwarf did come to give him some water but not take him to a bed.  What to do?
