Does a raised bridge, raised underneath a hole, block liquid from falling through the hole, as a wall does?

Just throwing this up again, as I don't see that it was answered.

I'm pretty sure it does- sure enough that I'd try it in my fort. If I am misinformed, hopefully somebody will correct me before it floods your everything.

I want to deconstruct a downward stairway, the only remaining path to a reservoir. Unfortunately dwarves insist on doing it from the bottom, and they get stuck. Can I prevent that?

Try ordering and then suspending the construction of a floor on the tile they would stand on. I don't know if that will work, but it might.

I'm not sure that you CAN deconstruct from above.
...Fill the reservoir after the job is done.  If he doesn't sink to the bottom, the 7/7 water will let him get out at the staircase, provided that they're smart enough to path like that (probably not).
Otherwise...
That dwarf was a hero.

Can you just construct a floor over the downward stairway?

I had to leave the stairs there, if he became a(n) hero the water would have been contaminated 0_o

An engraver got strange-moodified and went legendary, he's now engraving my dining room. All the dwarves are ecstatic about it, but they look tightly packed. Is there a limit in size, where too many dwarves in one space get unhappy thoughts?

EDIT: Also, can you specify which dwarf does a job?

No, although it does amp up socializing, which increases friendships and grudges.

You can force a dwarf to do a job a couple of different ways.

1. Build a workshop, set it so that only that dwarf is allowed to work there.
2. Lock the dwarf in with materials. Works better for long-term jobs, so long as you give the dwarf sustenance and a hauler to clear out the workshop.

With both of these methods you need to set tasks at the workshop itself instead of using the manager, unless that workshop is the only one of its type.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Some more questions :P

Can I get a task like engrave to be executed only by the highest skilled dwarf capable of doing it?

I've gotten to building cage traps, and a rhesus monkey got himself caught in one. Er... what now? Do I just let him starve to death? How can I do anything else with him?

a) No, short of disabling the skill on everyone else.

b) Build a kennel, Tame Large Animal.

Militia commander of the squad chosen for my very first danger room will not wear a breastplate.

I've got steel, and adamantine, breastplates in stockpiles, and I've specified both a steel and a shiny blue one (not at the same time) (in the squads menu) but still won't put one on.  Rest of the squad are training excessively well, and they are wearing proper armour...

And the equip menu shows she is wearing one.  Is one likely to be wrong over the other?

It shows she's been assigned one. She may not be able to reach the one she's been assigned.

Check if the breastplate is sitting at the bottom of a murky pool somewhere (unreachable). More commonly, check your unconscious invalids in the hospital if they're still wearing armor - chances are if there was someone else before in that squad leader slot, they're wearing the breastplate your squad leader wants. If so, dump the item to take it off the patient and check if she puts it on once it's been unforbidden.
