My guard dogs have 6 spaces to live in, but they insist on living on the same space as the other and keep fighting each other.

Can't we all just get along? That rock floor is just the same as the other rock floor...

Does the 3*X hallway with dogs at the end not work anymore?

edit: forgot the key:

(I'm still on 31.18, where at least I'm not surprised by the bugs...)

You see the three spaces in the middle where the two dogs may stand on top of each other? Apparently they travel around until they come on the same square, then get into a staring match which eventually ends in one dog biting the other. Damage ranges from making one dog stand up over and over spamming my combat logs to a severely scratched bruised mutt.

It makes my 'ohshitwhyistherefighting' meter go off the charts.

Right now I have 8 pages of one dog biting the other and shaking him around.

Yeah... not cool, Toady seriously needs to tone down the crowding anger...

On the upside... Dogfights!

When I breach a water source, if I use fortifications instead of mining out the offending wall, does it let water through at a slower pace?

It would make sense in real life, since it's a smaller hole, but I don't know if that's implemented in game.

Supposedly, yes.

As far as I can tell, fortifications are basically transparent to water.  They don't seem to slow down flow at all.

According the the changelog, animals are supposed to spread out more evenly through pasture/pens zones in the next release.

Is there some factor that might stop goblins from besieging me? In years 3, 4 and 5 I had a siege each year - but all I've had since then is one lousy ambush, in spite of my created wealth spiking from 2.2 to 8 million (blue magic). Could it be because the goblin war leader was killed in the last siege? Or because my exported wealth remains laughably low?

In the .19 version is there a way to tell how many layers of aquifer there are before embark? Assuming they are controlled the same as the old version its not uncommon to see two or more aquifer layers (I've seen up to four, heard they can go up to five).  I can dig through one easy enough, two I cannot but probably could learn I guess, but I've heard three or more is very hard to do (and probably requires special equipment brought along), it would be nice to know before going.

In .18, is it possible to block magma with a locked, pet-safe bauxtite door? Because I'm about to open the side of a volcano into my magma plumbing, and I have the (bauxtite) floodgate opened and linked to a meeting-hall lever with bauxtite mechanisms, as well as bauxtite grates on the openings for the forges and smelters. My only way to get the magma flowing is to have one of my miners tap into the volcano and hoof it for the safety of the stairwell, and at the moment all I have between the stairs and magma is that door. Do I need to rush to build a wall, or will that hold up on its own?

All doors will hold back magma as long as they remain unopened.

How does everyone train their masons? I haven't gotten any luck with getting masons from immigrants, and I've trained two dwarves to proficient masonry so far by building extra armorstands/weaponracks to trade to passing caravans. After my stockpiles (of 200 something) were filled, I ordered them to build blocks but now that stockpile is overfilling into the workshops.

My Terracotta army of dwarves must be finished!
