/panic

...so I just started playing and on my third trial world and digging out my first level underground and miasma just struck and I've never seen miasma before...so...what do? XD will it kill my dwarves if they keep walking through it? cuz I've got miners down there still.

No, miasma just puts an unhappy thought in your dwarves, but it is created from meat and stuff rotting so something probally died down there so watch out for cavern monsters..

-.- animals keep dragging down dead toads and leaving it everywhere. suggestions?
Designate a corpse/refuse stockpile outside or behind a door, dwarves will haul it up to the stockpile and throw it in.

Faint yellow diamonds and light yellow diamonds are different objects, light yellow diamonds have a material value of 30, where faint yellow diamonds are worth 40.

i have a wierd situation in my fort.

as soon as goblin amushes/sieges spawn on the map they start to fight amongst themselves, i dont really mind tho, but it is abit annoying.

i suspect this is because sometimes said goblin attacks have humans in them, who will be killed right away.
but because they are from the goblin civ they become an enemy of said civ, then the cycle goes on.
im guessing this probably had started somewhere way back in history.

any idea why this is happening and/or how do stop/prevent it?

it is a known bug that comes from a loyalty cascade when a non goblin within the ambush, although they are friendly gets attacked by a goblin, then that goblin is attacked for attacking a friendly and so on

Diamonds are found in kimberlite, if you keep digging out these veins you will eventually run into all varieties (depending on the amount of gabbro layers on your map you might run out of kimberlite before finding any really precious diamonds tho as they are really rare).

The only way to prevent loyalty cascades from leaders being from captured humans I can think of is to just generate a world with as little history as possible thus decreasing the amount of wars and decreasing the chance of any non goblins being captured by goblins.

Since when do captured humans cause loyalty cascades? I thought all that got taken care of ages back?

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

My dwarves have been bitching about the crowded tables lately. I don't feel like expanding my dining room area again, so I'm wondering:

Current table/chair setup:

    c
   ctc
    c

If I made it like:

    ccc
    ctc
    ccc

Would dwarves still use the newly added chairs, or can they not sit on them while eating at the dining table?

What level of skill is required to see the prices on the trading screen?  I have a leader who is a miner with (initially) 1 point in the 6 recommended "leader" skill set.

You need a broker with at least "dabbling" in appraisal.

So I guess I misunderstood the guide.

So until a noble shows up I am stuck..  Okay.

Can I embark with a dwarf skilled in strand extracting? I've looked through the list and found nothing at all... does it fall under "misc. object user"?
