I've got a problem. One of my miners had been injured in accident, so two of my dwarves are trying to help him out. One of them took "apply cast" task and is standing in front of the pond for couple of months. I've had a caravan come and leave since then.
That medic is apparantly stuck but i cannot stop him from standing in front of those pool. I've tried to cancel job, to stop designation, to assign a burrow for him somewhere else, to remove a water source zone and still got nothing. He's already thirsty (yes, thirsty dwarf near the water) and may die soon, and a child he took along with him is in danger too.
So what can i do with all this?
Cast applying is bugged, splints work much better.
I'm not sure how to get him to stop, but try forbidding the bucket or putting him in a squad and stationing him.

Yes, the elves don't have a diplomat position at the moment, so they can't send a diplomat to you.  Likewise, humans don't send trade liaisons, because they don't have a defined liaison position.  It is possible to modify the entity raws to fix this, giving elves diplomats and humans trade liaisons.  This does require a world regen.

Go to your Dwarf Fortress folder, raw is right there next to data and sdl.

Strange moods: what causes dwarves to not collect objects even though they're on hand? The guy is asking for metal bars, cloth, cut gems and stone. I have all of these things. I even have his preferred things. None of them are forbidden, it's all accessible just the next floor up and a couple of floors down. What's the deal? A bug?

You can look at the contents of the workshop with 't' and see what materials he's gathered so far, and which one
he's stopped on.  Be aware that when he requests a material, he might want more than one unit, so he might be stuck on a material even if he's gathered one already.

In your case the cloth is likely to be causing the problem, since 'cloth' can refer to either plant or silk cloth.  The dwarf wants one and won't accept the other, but won't tell you which one.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Hey, I'm full of these: will these dwarves who lost a foot each stay in bed until they die? It's been seasons that they've been in there, I assume the worst.

Yep.  Crutches don't work at the moment, so a dwarf who looses a leg or foot will never move again.

This is probably an isolated case, but i had a dwarf child who lost a foot, crawled his way to finishing an artifact. It was sad to watch. He died shortly after making it from infections i believe.

I don't know what to do with it yet. First I wanted to display it at a zoo, but when the cage was shoved inside the animal stockpile, I found out undead creatures create miasma. I can't feed it invaders, since there aren't any goblins nearby. I'm planning to build an aboveground castle on top of my fortress sometime in the future, so maybe I can build a zoo in there. Or maybe I'll build a high tower outside and put it on there. I could kill it, but that seems like a waste. It's not every day you capture a

Any other ideas would be appreciated, though.

Make a pit in your entry area.  Put fun pet in pit.  link cage to lever.  Totally seal walls of pit with constructed walls and tear down all ramps / stairs.  Build a retracting bridge over monster's feeding pit.  When appropriate, open bridge when something you want to play with the critter is on it.
