the goblin siege is not attacking, its just standing there, on the corner of the map. in a little group

this is the first time i have ever had a goblin siege, is this normal? they do attack dwarfs if they get too close, but then they just stand there, continuing to do nothing...
did you trap its leader?

no, leader is not trapped, they just stand there, on a far corner of the map, i am kinda dissapointed to be honest, it was my first siege and i was hoping for 'fun' as they call it on the forums ;)

is this normal behavior? them not attacking

It's a problem with labors. You can only have a dwarf mine or cut trees, because they have different required tools.

Now they're done mining. How do I get them to chop down the selected trees? They all just stand there. All four of them. Can I sell them into slavery and get migrant workers or something?

Alright. Started over with 3 axes and told the dwarves to cut down trees. Nothing. They just wander around. I'm just going to restart and bring a bunch of wood with me.

are the trees visibly marked? Are your dorfs assigned with "Wood cutting" labor? Are they in the military?

If there is no path to get to any of your dwarves or pets, they will just stand there, well, sieging you.  Sortof.

If there is a path to get to you they will follow it. - typically this is the path you specifically built for goblins, with lots of fun stuff in it.

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

I remember reading that goblins hug walls when they invade. I'm building a wall in front of the entrance to my fort (two walls, actually - one is much closer to the entrance, the other's further away, so there was room for a refuse stockpile. I'm in between two hills (kinda) so I'm building a floor over the main area - and before you go "but miaaaaasma", I'm just gonna tell you "haha, no, because you see, I was smart and made (at least there will be) an exit into the overworld MUCH closer to the fort entrance than the one in the outer wall, and they don't have to pass the stockpile to get there, so my dwarves won't go nowhere near that miasma shit"), and I'm gonna be building spike traps (hooked up to a lever. Chunk chunk). Proper locations for them, of course, would be handy.

So, tl;dr: can anyone confirm that goblins do, in fact, hug the walls when they enter through a door?

Miasma doesn't care about inside/outside, it only cares about light/dark, so if you make a refuse pile outside and later construct a floor you won't get miasma.
About the goblins tho, sieges can spawn on all map edges so depending on what is the closest path to anything they can attack, they might or might not 'hug the walls'. Ambushes (which you will probably get first) spawn at the map edges too but whether they take a direct path i don't know, so be ready for them to suddenly show up at your second entrance.

The second pathway is a stairwell with hatch covers, controlled by a lever.  I think it'll be fine. It's like, literally ten squares away from my main fortress entrance. Thanks for the concern, though.

I think I'll just make a little field of spike traps around the hole in the wall. Should work.

Should a Marksdwarf uniform include a Buckler, or should it have no Shield/Buckler specified?

bucklers help block enemy bolts and (should they need it) melee weapons... yeah go ahead if you can.

Do wolves only show up during certain seasons? I'm planning on a trap. Y' know. Puppy on a leash, cage traps...that kinda thing. The puppy will be fine.

Also, do you need a dongon mastor to train wolves?

I read than dwarf wear they crossbow with one hand, and can have a buckler/shield in the other.
But they cannot wear quiver with a shield (they take the quiver with hand) But i'm not sure for that.

I get a minor wounded dwarf (Legendary, miner), and didn't having fonctionnal well/outside water...
But, in the first cavern i get two accessible lakes. No dwarfs take water for my miner, no burrow and door unlocked.
I can't do nothing for saving my miner?  :-[ (It's funny, he get wounded when minning the water reservoir...for the well)

Construct a well above the lake (it can be several z-levels above), or set the lake shore as a water source in zones ([ i ]).
