For interests sake, how long would it take (with a perpetual motion pumpstack) to move that water back up from a pit (so, 10 levels, plus some sideways movement)

The outpost liaison sets up a trade agreement, and among the possible trade items are crafts. There's what the crafts are made of, then the various craft items. So, if I requested steel and gold crafts, then specified a particular craft item (like, say, instruments), will I be more likely to receive steel and gold instruments than any other craft item/material?
The liason treat them seperately. The same case applies when you ask for lots of animals and lots of tin cages, they'd bring animals in cages of copper-tin ratio of about 50-50 THEN bring some extra empty tin cages for you.

Is pumping no longer a good conditioning method? I took a guy with no skill in pumping and made him a legendary pump operator and i didnt see him ever become anything more than "mighty" which he already was beforehand.

If I make a barrel and then the brewer uses it and fills it with ale, then all the dwarfs drink that ale.
What happens to the barrel?
Is it available for reuse?
Or is it thrown away?

To actually answer your question, the barrel remains behind for further use.

You are getting this message because you have soap which is not in a hospital.  The use of soap has a bug at the moment in that it will only work properly when the soap is stored in a hospital as part of the hospital supplies.  The soap has to be in a constructed container-type furniture item such as a chest, box, or bag, and not in a bar/stockpile.  Bars of soap in a bar/block stockpile will generate constant canceled job spam messages as dwarves go to clean themselves and then can't figure out how.

To fix this, build a hospital with plenty of constructed containers.  Wait for your dwarves to move soap into it, and then forbid any soap not in your hospital.

I've found that bug helpful, in that it tells me which dwarf I need to send to pull the lever in the dwarven bath.
Almost all my dwarves are in squads, and I clean them regularly by activating their squad and giving them a bath.

However, due to buggy behaviour with woodcutters, miners and hunters, I don't have those in squads.
So, they tend not to have their periodic baths.

Whenever one of them gets dirty however, the cancels clean self message will alert me to it, so I can promptly send the dirty dwarf to the bath, by means of a lever that has it's name on it.
As a result of my periodic mass cleaning, I only get the cancels clean self message about five times each season. No bother at all, just helpful :D

If you don't give most of your dwarves periodic baths however, I can imagine this bug being a pain due to the constant job cancellation spam.
