Thanks!

Fortunately except few punches, killed war dog (one hit, head travelled 10 tile) and destroyed smelter nothing happened.

I have military with options
- sleep in baracks at will
- sleep in baracks at need
- sleep in room at will
As answered, your best bet is not to make people to sleep in barrack but in their room as normal instead.

The only thing I can see that would cause that is that drums have different material requirements than other instruments.  Most instruments have the [HARD_MAT] token, drums don't.  This might mean that you need to make drums from wood or something.  I do see 'make wooden instruments' as an option in the job manager menu, so you could try that.
Back at this, I ordered five wooden instruments to be made, and they were made, but no drums. The Mandate has become yellow, which I expect means it's gotten more urgent?

Lost yeah.

Also, can't put wooden instruments on repeat, because I only saw them in the U-manager.

capture with cage trap and kill with station. Never ever let your men stay next to river/lake edges if there's an alligator in it.

hey there!
just got a question concerning fortifications:

i built a fortification so i could safely drain my moat. now somehow a goblin got through it.

could it be, the water crushing on him from above as he stepped onto a pressure plate somehow pushed him into the fortification, he then released himself onto the "wrong", meaning inner site of it?

Maybe... I remember being in a fortification in adventurer mode. I think I fell off a cliff into it. It was just like I was on the ground. I could move to the ground on the 2 sides of it but not into other fortifications next to it.

How do I get the prickleberry seeds out of my empty cages? Will they still be used to set cage traps up?

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Russian Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

Water flowing through a fortification can sometimes push creatures through to the other side.

Try linking the cage to a lever, and pulling the lever.

Why must my dwarfs store food in their rooms?  One of my residential wings has been consumed with miasma.

For anything where you don't know what workshop is used:

Activate the job in the manager. Keep an eye on the U list. When you see a dwarf with the job you want active, either zoom to him to find what he's using, or use the jobs screen to find the workshop. Set the task on repeat there, and write down what workshop it was.

Alligators wander randomly just like regular animals. Just put trap anywhere especially at choke points. However they consider themselves cornered if you are next to the bank and they are under and will attack furiously. IDK why but that's how it work.

Stop assigning food to militias and stop drafting miner/woodcutter/hunter
