why won't my 18 idlers all set to refuse hauling only move the items I have set for dumping?
Are the items outside?  Turn collection of outside refuse on by pressing 'o', 'r', 'o'.
Meh the items are 30 z levels underground :P

I just wet myself realising that I have one blue vein stick a good five levels up into the third cavern layer and a second in the magma sea.
Which is making me wonder how many units of adamantine do you guys normally find in your forts, this is a 3x3 embark and I wet myself realising how many battleaxes Im going to have.

you can run df prospect to find out yourself. Mine are usually in the range of 400-500. The very one I have on my current 3x3 is 376. If you increase the amount of layer distance between the magma sea and the underground you'd get longer spires but I find that rather exploity.

Lucky you thats a metric*^%ton
really quick question.
Whats the best way to cheer up a dwarf? My baroness is upset because someone had a better tomb than her, I've fixed it but shes tantrumming.

I've locked her in her room. Is it better to let her starve/thirst to death or let her loose to cheer her up?

Well starving them to death is a suitably dwarven solution however.
Too stop tantrums like this in future, engraved bedrooms, legendary dining rooms and meals all help a lot.
Also a mist generator if you know how to build one.

Although simple water mist is often too common for Nobles who will settle for nothing more than their own personal magma mist generator built into their very bedrooms.

The baron is the only jealous noble in the current version. I've had limited success with restraining his/her action radius to levels that don't have other peoples bedrooms in the vicinity. One option is to make the baron your only pump operator and put a manually operated pump in his bedroom (or tomb). Make small food and booze stockpiles with their favorite food and booze nearby.
Know that it is possible to counter the unhappy thought from jealousy with enough nice furniture (preferably of liked materials) in the nobles rooms. My baroness was always always ecstatic despite her status always reading that "she was utterly traumatized by...".
Having the baron die is an issue as i don't think a new one will be appointed and that will prevent you from getting the king.
Just let her out and let her beat some dwarfs up or throw some tables around, it's good training for your doctors (or masons producing coffins).
