Is it just 'meat' that gives you a barrel at embark, or do things like brains, liver, etc. give their own barrels too?

I got a similar problem, my goblins kinda gave up on me, two years without sieges. I think i might even have depleted the area of mega and forgotten beasts (if that is possible). I think I'm gonna abandon out of boredom soon.

Build a wall around them and let them starve.

I mean make a huge trap fortress (hint: use many loaded cage and weapon traps for extra !!FUN!!) and explore it in adventure mode. in (d_)init.txt there is a thing called "adventure_traps" or something and make your adventurer affected by traps. lead a party into the fort and try to steal the artifacts within!

will they only escape once the cage is built or can they escape from the trap aswell?

Well, constructed default traps and pressure plates won't work, but magma is still Very Effective against anything made of goblin. Also, stripping him and then releasing him into the barracks ups your soldiers and their kill count.

Pretty impressive  :o

No, not enough. You still have hundreds of thousands of unstatued rocks down there. Do something about it.  8)

Is it possible to move hostile/untame wild creatures/monsters/animals into a pit without them escaping? Anytime I try to move them it fails. I can move prisoners just fine with the exception of snatchers. My pit is practically next to the cage storage.
Am I missing something? If the success rate is so low on moving hostile creatures that I've yet to succeed then I'm just going to have to genicide them arn't I? Even with ALL the exotic tags removed I still can't tame trogledytes which I want in a pit. So I can feed them goblins :)

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Russian Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

How do I free creatures from cages? (aside for accidentaly when moving them..)

I caught a few animals in my cage traps, tamed them, but they are still sitting caged in my stockpile. I have heard that you can link up a lever or something like that?

Does putting the [NO_EXERT] tag on dwarves make them sleep themselves to death?

I recently embarked in an evil biome after adding a few tags to my dwarves to make them more combat worthy, since my population cap was set to be 20, but the first time they went to sleep, they never woke up and died from dehydration.
