Yes, normal cage traps don't catch forgotten beasts, and GCS webbed traps will catch ANYTHING in the game, including forgotten beasts (read it up on the wiki, it will say that). Quote from the wiki: "...titans and forgotten beasts  (as well as certain other types of creatures) are immune to traps entirely and will waltz right past all of your carefully placed cages unless the cage has a giant cave spider web on it. A webbed cage trap will capture absolutely anything in the current version."

Now for my questions:
1. Is there any way to run/get the Lazy Newb pack using/for linux?
2. Raised bridges count as walls, but do they count as walls to building destroyers (can building destroyers destroy raised bridges)?

1. No idea about Linux, sorry.

BUT

2. To my knowledge, Building Destroyers CAN destroy raised bridges, because raised bridges are a building. The walls that they cannot destroy are Constructions, which makes, to my knowledge, the difference.

My question: I have chosen a Dwarf to become my noble, and he's risen through the ranks, all the way to Duke. But now, I regret choosing this particular Dwarf. His preferences are more trouble than I thought they would be, and my dwarves die in incarceration. What happens if I kill this guy? Can I still have a noble? Do I get to pick the noble again, or is he chosen from random, or is the position more or less gone forever?

In theory, this is true.  In practice, Building Destroyers don't seem to ever actually destroy bridges.  I've used raised bridges to hold building destroyers at bay many times.

As far as I can tell, assigning your noble is a one time only event.

My weaponsmith went into a fey mood and produced a gold short sword. How useful is this thing going to be in terms of killing things? Can gold even keep an edge?

I don't think that it will be useful, except maybe for an adventurer slapping enemies with the flat side.  :D

Why are only my squad leaders wearing their uniforms?

Never mind, was assigning uniform to one dwarf only instead of the whole squad.

A couple of questions from my first fortress:

1. I have a Strange Mood dwarf in a closed off fortress. He's already gotten every material his list displays and I've got at least 3 more of each inside the fortress, but he doesn't gather them or start building anything. Is it possible that he's trying to pick up materials outside of the fortress (which are inaccessible)?
2. Are slabs usable as a flux or at a workshop? If so, is there a point to not making slabs out of rocks?
3. I order my butcher to slaughter an animal. The animal is struck down, but me meat supply stays the same. Butchering monster corpses works fine.
4. Is there a way to not have/refuse migrations or will they only stop arriving after I reach pop cap.
5. Is there a limit to the number simultaneous ambushes/thieves/sieges from a single race? I was forced to close of my fort after 6 goblin ambushes arrived at the same time (luckily they were detected by migrants not my regular dwarfs).
6. Does killing war the civilization's leaders weaken it in any way?
7. Is it especially good/bad that I've reached the magma sea as early as 64 z-levels below my fortress?
8. I've seen somebody mention tree-farms on the forum, but I've read on the wiki that trees grow wildly without any input on your part, so how do those tree-farms work?
9. Can the dwarven caravans stop appearing when too many of them are killed by ambushers? Can a liasion stop appearing?

1.  Check for issues with burrows.
2.  Don't know much about slabs, but I think no.  Some of us like mundane items made out of metal.
3.  not a question.
4.  you can lock them out, or assign them to a burrow beneath a drawbridge.  Short answer is no.
5.  no.
6.  not a legends-mode trawler myself, but I would suggest yes.  I think they may stop attacking for awhile.
7.  just means you have less levels to work with.  but the magma is closer, so no real problem.
8.  dig out an enormous area on a z level.. Or multiple z levels on top of each other.  flood it, then drain it or allow it to evaporate.  Voila, mud over natural rock floor will give you trees and plenty of gatherable underground plants in a few years.
9.  Not sure about permanently.  I had a liason spawn on top of an ambush, I didn't get dwarven caravans for the next 3 or so years while a new liason got appointed by the home civ.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I constructed ramp but floor above was NOT removed. Is it normal? How can I remove floor from level below?

designate channeling on the floor, it'd be removed leaving the constructed ramp intact

2. Are slabs usable as a flux or at a workshop? If so, is there a point to not making slabs out of rocks?
Slab is identical to statues in the way that you can make room from them and dwarves will feel happier when they recognize a good quality slab. Thus sometimes it might be a good idea to make a slab out of superior material.

3. I order my butcher to slaughter an animal. The animal is struck down, but me meat supply stays the same. Butchering monster corpses works fine.
If the creature was too small it'd produce nothing of value.

4. Is there a way to not have/refuse migrations or will they only stop arriving after I reach pop cap.
After the first 2 waves they'd stop only if you reach pop cap or if something horrible is going on in your fort and no one would want to go to it.

5. Is there a limit to the number simultaneous ambushes/thieves/sieges from a single race? I was forced to close of my fort after 6 goblin ambushes arrived at the same time (luckily they were detected by migrants not my regular dwarfs).
Ambush wave is one per season per hostile civ. Each wave can consist of multiple squads which must be detected individually.

6. Does killing war the civilization's leaders weaken it in any way?
You'd receive peace negotiation very soon, supposedly.

7. Is it especially good/bad that I've reached the magma sea as early as 64 z-levels below my fortress?
No that sounds normal.

8. I've seen somebody mention tree-farms on the forum, but I've read on the wiki that trees grow wildly without any input on your part, so how do those tree-farms work?
muddy underground tiles encourage tree growth.

9. Can the dwarven caravans stop appearing when too many of them are killed by ambushers? Can a liasion stop appearing?
When too many are killed the civ will get angry and siege you. Liasons never stop appearing unless they are sieging you.

Not especially anything.

If I were you I'd set up a mini-fortress at the magma so you can forge things without wasting coke. So it is better then having to go 90 Z-Levels, but worse then only having to go 50. The best of all worlds is a volcano. You can have a magma forge working on your fortresses main hall, which is incredibly convenient.

Are scourges usable by Dwarfs? What about pikes? I like the idea of pikedwarfs.

Also, is there an easy way to get everyone who is not military to sit still and quiet inside my fortress? Like a quick order? I tried assigning them quickly to burrows, but that didn't work very well for me.

All weapons can be used by dorfs, assuming you can get your hands on them. Some of them must be held in 2 hands, however.
You can mass assign civs to specific burrow with 'm'ilitary -> 'a'lert

All weapons? Oh, that's very nice. In that case I might buy some if Human or Elves carry anything interesting. And I'll check it out about the alerts, thanks! :)
