They default to a random craft skill.

Do wall materials affect room quality?
Logged
As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Do wall materials affect room quality?
They do. Smooth and engrave them if you can to get a higher room value.
Here's my question:
Will a Baron who likes parties mandate parties?

yes. look [ k ] at the material for its value. then multiply that by the stuff in the walls.

btw, I use Dwarf Therapist for stuff like assigning jobs and looking for moods. also, smelting gets random metal skill

baron: nope. but they will have parties as much as often.

Help! My liason came, and this isn't my first time, so I know how it's supposed to go down. But this time, for some reason my leader stopped conducting the meeting, so my liason has been hopelessly chasing him all the way around my fort, but he won't continue the meeting. It's nearing mid-winter now and the merchants have even left, how do I get my leader to finish the meeting before the liason leaves (unhappy)? As far as I know stopping the meeting was supposed to be impossible (other than by a strange mood).

EDIT: make that 15. Not sure what took that last one so long.

This was an earlier version (31.12 I think), but I've had a liaison hang around my fort waiting for my mayor for almost 2 years. He only left when the mayor died in a goblin attack.

Will a Baron who likes parties mandate parties?
Is it even possible for a dwarf to like parties?  As in, "Urist McDwarf likes microcline, cats, the color beige, wombat fiends, and parties"?  I've never seen a dwarf have something on his like list that wasn't a material, creature, or color.  I suspect that even if they did, they wouldn't mandate them, since mandates are made for things to be made, not events to happen.

Just a question about water, wells and rivers:

I need to get water from the river down 8 levels to my well.

Obviously the water would flood my underground base if I didn't have some way of getting rid of the water or some way of stopping it (flood gate maybe?)

So, how can I accomplish this?

(Started playing 5 days ago, damn addicting ...)

there are several ways. one way is digging diagonally to stop the pressure to that z-level. another, harder way is manually linking pumps.

so, basically,

Code: [Select]
######
###B##
##A###
######
where # is a wall, A and B are dug out (A is a stairwell up and B is a ramp, channeled in from above). A is to the river/whatever, B is right below your well.

have fun!

You need to first remove the bridge before you can dig out the ground. After channeling, reconstruct the bridge.
