I've never fought a dragon before, and thought it would be neat to pit a couple of the elephants who bested some dwarves against one in the Arena. To my dismay, the tusked demons quickly beat the dragon into a bloody pulp. "Ok, we'll try that again..." I thought. And again, the gray spawn of Boatmurdered slew a dragon. And again. And then, again.

...Are the dragons spawned in the Arena puny little infants by default, or are all dragons made of paper mache?

they only mature at age 1000+ and they are pretty weak when temperature is disabled.

remove the kill order, that'd put them back to civilian status and start running

I have a bunch of clothing strewn over my fortress. I've tried dumping it, but it just gets ignored.

How can I get rid of it. At least some of it is from goblins ( which I've d-b and d-b-dumped many times) and some is the civilian remnants from my military getting upgrades.

The clothing is probably marked as being owned by various dwarves.  (Yes, even the goblin clothing.  Apparently the moment a goblin dies, dwarves call dibs on his loincloth and socks.)  Owned clothing won't be dumped, even if you mark it for dumping.  The best you can do is give all your dwarves nice bedrooms with cabinets to store their clothes in, and enough free time to store them.  They'll never actually wear any owned clothing, but may put it away eventually.  Alternately, flood the area with magma, or channel out the floor the clothing is on and then build floors over the resulting holes.

Thanks for the quickest reply I've gotten on here yet :P

Cabinets or coffers? Cos I've now a sinking feeling that I've put useless coffers in every room. if I need cabinets, what should each room have? Everyone talks about 3x1 rooms, which I can't work out. I have a bed and a coffer currently.

Also, does food in a depot Rot?

Cabinets store clothes. For me, one per room is enough. My dwarfs have 2x2 bedrooms, with a bed, coffer, and cabinet each.

Food in a depot does rot.

I spoil my dwarves. They get a smoother, engraved 3x3 room with a bed, table, chair, cabinet, and container.

Okay, so it's clothes ownership that's the problem...

Is there any point to making clothes then? Will dwarves upgrade, and if they do, do they cast off their old clothes for other dwarves?

station order is the equivalent of move-attack in RTS games. Of course it wont work.
