What parts of that make it a good example of an elephant trap?

I get that you could use the bridge to force them to go over and back multiple times, but the name o the thing was "good choke and bad choke". Which is which, and why?

the good choke is the one which force creatures to go through the traps, the bad choke is the one which doesnt.

the one with down-ramps (red triangles pointing down) is the bad one as animals can bypass it. The key is channeling and removing up-ramps later. or, digging the thing underground and then channeling (leaves no ramp).

it forces the animals (or siegers, amusing in this case  ;D) to go through one part.

the short answer: the thing on the left.

How do I manually assign?
Go to the [ s ] squads menu and choose a squad. assign them to following the route.
What button do I press. I can station them at the parts of the route, but nothing else.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Seems that a bunch of animals have managed to get rot on their feet.
How do I get rid of this before my fortress becomes a purple cloud.
Some are wardogs assigned to people as pets.

Designate the space on the opposite side of a shallow pool of water (created using a screw pump) as a burrow for the pet owners. They'll wash their feet as they cross through.

Will that help at all? What with them already being rotten and miasma inducing?
And can my mist generator not take care of that?

Washing will not take care of the parts of the animals that are already rotten and giving off miasma.  Medical care would be able to take care of that if they were dwarves, but there is no actual medical care in place for animals at the moment.  Slaughter all afflicted animals.  Animals which are pets you will need to arrange to capture in traps or kill.

in my new fort my miners had an accident, incapacitating them and making them unable to work for however-long it takes them to recover from their wounds. How can I reassign their picks to other dwarves, if that's possible?

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. I thought they had tracked through something rotten and were somehow spreading it about.

Alternatively, you could put them in pits with giant scorpions and marksdwarves standing by to kill the scorpions, after they lop the pets' legs off. Might start a trend of legless cats in your fortress.

Torso kitty.

Kittapillars! :P

QUESTION: If I build a multiple z-leveled structure 1-2 z levels above a flat plane, and then drop it, will it retain structural integrity (and importantly, remain watertight?), or will it collapse?
