Is there a possibilty of no goblins then?
How soon will I know if goblins are in my area?
Started with only kobold on my c list, had elven and dwarven caravan but nothing about humans or goblins yet.
also is the numbe rof megabeast set in stone? For instance If kill them all will I never get anymore? :)
Yes
C list, see if goblins are on it
Yes
You can only use [c] if you have seen the goblins already. Or anything but cavern dwellers and dwarves.
To simplify: the c list shows all civs that have been on the map since you arrived.
So your civ (because you are there), cave people civs (already on the map), and traders/thieves/etc after they visit.

So at least one kobold (most likely a thief) was on your map at one point. Thieves are hidden until spotted.

Underwater Items?
« Reply #6394 on: December 22, 2010, 05:41:33 pm »

Is there a way to retrieve underwater items without completely draining the body of water?

I was trying an elaborate river dam system in my last fort when I was overrun.  This time I want to grab some goodies from the bottom of an underground lake...

If the water is still can the dorfs just swim down to the loot?

Thank you in advance

Dwarves will never voluntarily path into water deeper than 4/7, and if you dump them in deeper water then even if they can swim they won't do anything other than attempt to path out of the water.  You need to drain the water first in order to grab those items.

You could build a hollow tube in sections and then drop the sections in the water and hope they survive, then drain the water and get the items.

Pres "i" for zones, designate a zone over the pit, then press whatever button that says "is pond (not full)" and "P" then choose the animals to throw down.

Is it the skeleton of a sentient, and if not, is it in a refuse stockpile?

Also, you cannot interact with a caged creature, you have to let the fox out first.

Depends. If all your pumps are directly on top of each other, you'll need 1 waterwheel per 9 pumps, though you'll need more if you use gear assemblies to switch the pumps on/off.

What is it a skeleton of? If it was a goblin, or kobold, or elf, or giant, or ettin, or one of the cavern-dwelling races, or basically anything that can speak and walks about on two legs, it can't be butchered without modding the raws.
