3x3 it is then :)
If you didn't have bins before, and so binable items are strewn around a stockpile when you get bins do dwarves automatically put stuff in them? :)

Yeah, but it takes forever.

Is there any way to mark a specific animal to help identify it in assigning it to a chain? I have 55 war dogs piled together into a dog-bomb cage, and I want to select the best two male and female specimens to chain up nearby for breeding, but I haven't seen any way of specifying which dogs I want on the chain short of butchering the rest or trial-and error (and with 55 animals to sort through that will not be a quick process).

Marking a different water source as a water zone should help.

Designate a zone for water gathering. I think it's the [i] button for zones, then designate the area with 2 enter presses (Like digging) then press the relevant key in the box that pops up to make water collection turn white, then press escape.

Hehe, your forum formatting made the {i} turn into italics.  xD

Yeah, I've been stung with [b] before, but not [i]

My question time:
With caverns, everything says "Level one is safe(ish), level 2 is bad, level 3 is quite fun" but what does level 1 mean? Is it JUST the first Z-level with caverns? Or is there sort of 3 separate lots of cavern, and everything that is contiguous in the first cavern (spanning multiple z-levels) is "safe(ish)"?

Cos otherwise, my thinking reasons, monsters on the next z-level down would just travel up a ramp/staircase into top level. Or is there no such thing as ramps?

Second bit... How far down are caverns usually? I've dug down to Igneous Extrusive for the first time (deepest I've been... yeah, I know, sad) and thought I'd have found them at 20+ levels under my embark....

kinda spoilerish but, yes there are 3 separate caverns, each progressively scarier.  And on default world generation you should find #1 at 10z's, #2 at 20ish, and #3between 30 and 40 z's

Each cavern will be more or less a separate space. You can usually tell them apart by the flora; the first cavern contains only tower caps (white) and fungiwood) yellow). The second has goblin caps (red), black-caps (black), tunnel tubes (pink) and spore trees (dark blue-green), along with the trees in the first cavern. The third cavern will have the last four mentioned along with blood thorns (dark red) and nether caps (dark blue).

Each cavern can span anywhere from a few z-levels to huge empty spaces (one thread in the discussion forum has someone commenting on his 60-zlevel caverns).

Oh yes:D

And a question of my own, how does one find magma without using dfhack? Any tips beside digging all the way down to the magma sea?

you can actually just have a 1x1 danger "room"

xDx
xTx
xDx
xAx
xxx

D=door
T=the training spears
A=armor stand, weapon rack, or bed

Set the bottom door as internal then designate the "A" as a barracks for training. After choosing the room size, lock the bottom door so essentially there is only 1 usable tile of barracks, which is the tile with all the traps. You can fit an infinite number of dwarves on the tile.

If you're lucky there might be a magma pipe extending up to the second or third cavern. If you're made of 4 leaf clovers you might find magma on the surface. You could embark on a volcano, too.

Is there a better way than the manager screen to queue production?  I can only add 30 of something at a time.  Granted I can type it in over and over, but is there a way to permanently repeat production when the components are available?  I know you can do it at individual workshops, but they cancel the order when they have no access to components...

A place where I could order "Automatically cut all rough gems" or "Automatically make coke from lignite & coal" would be awesome...  I feel like most of my time is spent micromanaging at this point.

Am I missing something?  Thanks!

So, I dug all the 170z levels, made my pump stack floor(no miners died during this procedure). Made the reactor every 10z levels to power the stack. But now that I turned them on it go so lagged, I guess it's because of the mist generated.

What I want to know is, can I link the pumps to a lever and make it run just when I finally made the whole stack? Like: Pull the lever and every pump start at same time and magma flows to surface and then I pull the lever again and it turns off(ofcourse I will make a flood gate to store the magma).

Or , can I turn of mist generating at all?
