check d_init.txt in data>init>d_init.txt and find [POPULATION_CAP:200] and modify
if you unload/reload.
DwarfFortress.exe, yes. the save? no.

(beaten, posting anyway though)

yeah, probably fuel. if you have enough wood, just go make some charcoal at the wood furnace, then turn lingite/bit. coal into coke at a smelter.

are your smelters working?

if so, then disregard the above. if you have a manager, [ q ] the workshop and get the manager settings. press 1 to have everyone be able to work there.

then escape to the main menu and press [ d ]>[ b ]>[ t ] I think and reclaim the area over the workshop. (Shift + [ R ])

Recently, an undead deer kicked my axedwarf and then, he was two. How the heck can a rotten deer, without muscles kick a dwarf and cut off his lower body?? I though undeads were weaker...  :-\

Is it normal to have more thna one forgotten beast on your map at a time?
I have a massive cavern exposed with the bottom stairs sealed with only up stairs. So no flyers
One is 'an enourmous quadrapep composed of water, it appears to be emancipated, beware its webs'
the other 'a great quadraped composed of vomit, it has large madibles and appears to be emancipated, beward its poisonous vapour'
the second one sounds omre threatening :P
but either way i'm not going near them since my military is ragtag bunch of dabblers :)

undead arent any weaker then their alive counter part. If any thing, they are supposed to be even harder core.

I have way too many questions :/
so i'm making a danger room since my militayr is just feebly leveling up.
layout is like this:             (need spears first, had to enlist a dabbling carpenter since my other 2 were legendary and don't really want masterwork training spears :S)
A o o o o
o o o o o
L o o o o
S o o o o
A- Armour rack
o- wooden upright spear
L- lever
S-Golden statue to make them feel happier about spikes trying to kill them :)

On another note, its gonna use a ton of mechanism ot connect all these traps? 1 per upright trap right?

Yes, you need two mechanisms for every trap.

Also, I would put the lever outside the room, so the lever puller doesn't need to be in the room.

Deconstructing lever time :)
My next question is how do I go about digging through a cavern, I don't want monsters to be able to just run up my stairs and whatnot
do I just have to wall off each Z layer as I go?

Yes, or you could only pierce it at the lowest layer, and put up a roof.
Also, be aware that floor hatches cannot be destroyed from underneath.

Well I suggest to just keep going down until you reach a cavern. Then wall or floor off the part that has access to the caverns and dig to a new spot that has a natural pillar going through the cavern layer and keep digging through that pillar.

This is what I tried, and failed, to explain coherently.
